An heiress has told how she was raped three or four times a day for nine months after being abducted by a preacher.
Elizabeth Smart, 21, said she was kidnapped by Brian Mitchell at the age of 14 from her bedroom in the middle of the night.
He kept her tied up and threatened to kill her if she tried to escape back to her wealthy Mormon family.
Abducted: Elizabeth Smart, now 21, claims she was raped four times a day and tied with a cable by 'prophet' Brian David Mitchell, right [Pics in URL] The full horror of her ordeal emerged as she gave evidence for the first time in a case which has transfixed America.
Miss Smart, the student daughter of a millionaire estate agent, was in the witness box for nearly two hours but remained poised, her voice never wavering.
She did not have to see Mitchell as the 55-year- old had been removed from the courtroom in Salt Lake City, Utah, for disrupting proceedings by singing hymns.
The federal court is hearing the case to rule if Mitchell, who describes himself as a prophet, is mentally competent to stand trial.
The former street preacher has been behind bars since 2003, mostly in a mental hospital, but has twice been ruled unfit to stand trial.
When asked to describe him, Miss Smart said he was: 'Evil, wicked, manipulative, stinky, slimy, greedy, selfish, not spiritual, not religious, not close to God.'
Hearing: Ed Smart, Elizabeth's father, speaks outside court. Judges will decide whether Mitchell is fit to stand trial for kidnap and sexual assault
She told how within hours of being abducted...

Well they accept each other as Baptised, nobody accepts the Mormon religion’s baptism.
Nope, I saw it. Thanks though but your original comment said it all. Catholics think that they are all that and more.
Glad that the Vatican doesn’t have power in the US so I am not branded (literally) with an NC mark on my forehead.
That is formally done by the church leadership itself, you make it sound like it is just some individual members.
I too found it odd they called her an “heiress.” On the other hand, I found it even odder that they called some homeless lunatic wandering the streets ranting about God a “preacher?”
In some technical sense both of these are right. As long as a woman’s parents are not destitute and they have not disowned her, I guess she is an “heiress.” Similarly I guess homeless people wandering the streets yelling at us are preaching and are thus “preachers” whether they are preaching about God, the end of the world, the aliens that abucted them etc.
Finally when I say lunatic I do not mean to say I know this guy is not legally able to understand right from wrong. I suspect he knew it was wrong to steal someone’s child otherwise why would he do it in the dark of night and force her to where a disguise?
The Protestants and the Greek Orthodox have come to the same conclusion so I don't know how you can pretend that it is only a Vatican thing.
You didn’t elaborate on your post which of those religons determines who is or isn’t worthy of going to heaven?
You can keep your religon, because I can see that it’s empty.
I’ll keep my God.
I know a great deal about you. as Jesus said, what comes out of the mouth tells you about the heart. In this case, what comes out of your keyboard tells me a great deal about your heart. You are a bitter, animosity-driven person who can’t pass up an opportunity to diss Mormons. That eliminates you from being considered a Christian. Much of what you write also classifies you as either ignorant or a lier. Let’s just be generous and call you misinformed.
I said that they all agree that Mormons are not Christian, it is something they agree on.
Only a Mormon could post such nonsense, you think the Pope is not Christian?
The Pope and the Catholic Church does not accept Mormons as Christian.
Now you want to expand it to other religions. That may be fine and factual but the issue you raised is with the Catholics.
Whether a particular Christian sect has the 'blessing' to be called Christian by some select elders is baseless and what Luther tacked onto a door to protest.
Before you ask and dig, I am a secular humanist. I am a former Assembly of God member so I have my basis.
I used the word “church”, I simply meant it as all of the major Christian denominations official positions, not just Catholic.
No, I just am not in the habit of breaking everything down and making all inclusive lists, I thought using the largest Christian Church would make the point.
Not only is the Pope a Christian, but some of our Catholic friends are some of the finest Christians we know.
Assemblies of God USA:
A law unto itself
In the final analysis, Mormonism is an original, invented religion, born of the mind of Joseph Smith, who is responsible for the spiritual seduction of millions of people. To the world, Mormonism sells itself as the friendly Christian church down the street, but in reality it is no closer to biblical Christianity than Hinduism or Islam.
The goals of Mormonism, however, remain unchanged. It desires to turn Protestants and Catholics, Evangelicals and Pentecostals, into Mormons. It seeks to introduce them to what the Bible calls another gospel, another spirit, and another Jesus (2 Corinthians 11:4).
Read my post: I am not a member of the Assembly of God. I am a secular humanist. Not even close.
I did not know that! Do you have a link?
