The Great American Walk Out - Senate Finance Committee
Via email | September 30, 2009 | Via email

Posted on 10/01/2009 1:33:21 PM PDT by TenthAmendmentChampion

If you have been following the Senate Finance Committee meeting on the amendments to the Health Care Bill you know that every single Republican amendment is defeated with unanimous vote by the Democrats and every Democrat amendment is passed by unanimous vote by the Democrats. This is a waste of time and money and America will suffer. However, there is a way to stop this dead in its tracks.

Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure for the Senate Finance Committee reads:

"Rule 4. Quorums. - (a) Except as provided in subsection (b) one-third of the membership of the committee, including not less than one member of the majority party and one member of the minority party, shall constitute a quorum for the conduct of business."

Let it be known, that conservative citizens all across the United States demand that the Republican Senators in the Senate Finance Committee stop negotiating and Walk Out for America. We will support this effort and will support the Republican members of the Committee.

Contact the members listed below with a phone call and email. Quote the rule while on the phone and copy the rule in your emails. This must be done quickly. This action was presented by local coordinators on a state conference call and was unanimously approved by all members on the call. National groups will be contacted tonight and tomorrow to set this action in motion.

Please notify all of your local members and notify your local press if you choose. Use call in radio shows where available. Make this happen for the good of our country as it may be our last chance in the Senate. Thank you for everything you do.

Do you guys know if this is true and if it would work? I thought the walkout members could be declared in contempt of congress.

You won’t ever get Hatch to miss out on a chance to be ‘on camera’.

The proposed legislation makes them sick. I will be happy to give them a doctor’s excuse.

No chance of success with Snowe there.

I am not certain of this, but I think the Dems used this often when the Repubs were in “control”

We can only hope they do it, but I think the chances of them actually doing something is slim to none.

Yep, the Republicans have eye problems, as in they can’t see voting for any of this crap.

Its a Senate rule, so they could amend, change or suspend it with a simple majority vote; it would make the Dems look bad but it wouldn’t stop anything.

The GOP needs to walk out and then accuse the Dems of shutting down the Senate.

No. The Sergeant at Arms has the authority to arrest Senators who violate the rules of the Senate.

Walking out to break a quorum would be a violation. If someone calls for a quorum vote and the Senators don't show up, I'd think the President of the Senate can authorize the Sergeant At Arms to arrest them and bring them to the Chamber.

I am as useless as an Illinois Republican. What good will it be to call Sen Dick “Gulag” Durbin, or Sen Roland “Rolly the Boo” Burris?
