John Couey, convicted of killing 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford, had died of cancer, according to Jessie's grandfather, Archie Lunsford.
"We got a call from the warden this morning," said Lunsford.
Mark's mother, Ruthie, said this "is the best news she has heard."
Couey, 51, had been in Florida State Prison near Jacksonville.
He died 11:15 a.m. today at a Jacksonville hospital, state Department of Corrections spokeswoman Gretl Plessinger said.
"So far, no one has claimed his body," she said. "If no one claims it, he'll be buried in an inmate cemetery at Union Correctional Institution in Starke."

and as far as I’m concerned, he doesn’t deserve a decent burial. I’d flush his ashes down the toilet.
I wonder how dad Mark Lunsford is doing. I really grew to like him as he spoke out in the first few months after Jessica was murdered. He did some work with John Walsh, I believe. Then he kind of just disappeared from the news shows and I wondered if he had fallen on tough times.
Hope he was in pain.

I could go for lead poisioning for these slime, but there is something more dramatic about giving them a dignified public ceremony, awarding them the order of the hempen necktie and leaving them to dangle on display for 30 minutes or so.

I hope Mark Lumsford is OK- I cannot imagine what it must be like to lose a child.
I know one girl who lost a daughter- 20 years ago as a newborn. She claims she is over it but i rarely have a conversation with her where she does not mention it.

People have been trying to trash his reputation lately, claiming he was “in on it”. Mostly the anti-death penalty liberals trying to fight for the “rights” of John Couey.
As if this guy didn’t have enough torment.

The news will get better when the pervs who knew what he was doing and protected and abetted him (but who were never even charged) meet their end, as well.
I hate this....bad news....he didnt suffer long enough....should have ate him up about another 50 or so years
