M7.9 - Samoa Islands region - 2009 September 29 17:48:19
(Excerpt) Read more at maps.google.com ...
I've a relative that lived on Maui...for over 15 yrs. He was real into windsurfing....
He and his family moved back to the states...for many reasons. But one of the reasons...was no matter how long they lived there, no matter how many "locals" liked them..they would NEVER fit in.
What's even crazier...is that it was all color of skin. IOW...it didn't matter if that brown skinned dude over there was mexican, american indian, from india, etc..etc...It is ALL about the color of your skin. Period.
I used to surf a lot....but never went to HI. Never wanted to really.....we had good waves on the west coast. And didn't have to deal with that racism over there.
8.3 in Pago Pago
Just got the alert
It’s not for nothing that “Kill a Haole Day” is “celebrated” in Hawaii.
Second quake @ 5.9 near same location

Do you have a link?
Disregard... the forecaster gave me wrong info
8.3 was downgraded to 7.9
Pago Pago (14.3S 170.7W) at 1825Z reported a 1.57m/5.1’ Tsunami
Apia, West Samoa (13.8S 171.8W) at 1832z reported a .7m/2.3’ tsunami
Tsunami not expected on US/Canadian coasts
Only a 10-foot tsunami, so probably won’t damage much.
Please let our assets time to sail away, Lord.
We get a direct feed from NOAA/NWS (I work in a weather station)
Make that a 5.6
My son is a City and County of Honolulu lifeguard and works mainly Waikiki Beach towers. I think he’ll be real busy today.
New quake?
Thanks....
I thought we had some sort of floats or other devices which can somehow detect and report sudden rises in sea-levels for this very purpose? Or was this just something people have been thinking about creating?
Is Hawaii still in the US?
You don't watch "Red Eye", do you...LOL (running joke, Hawaii is a country outside the US)
The region in which I work is Alaska/Western US and BC
My message says that the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center at Ewa Beach Hawaii will issue messages for Hawaii and other areas of the Pacific outside Ca/Or/Wa/BC and AK
I don't get those reports
No, the 8.3 was downgraded to 7.9.
I guess they just had a 5.9 aftershock
I usually see terms like continental US when Hawaii is excluded. Being in Oceanside CA,7 blocks form the beach, I pay attention to these things. However, we are up the hill at about 140’ above sea level.
Thank you.
