Retailers warned that the state would not raise nearly as much as estimated, predicting that customers would go to New Hampshire or the Internet to avoid additional taxes.

Patterson is a joke, and a tool.
It’s a double-edged sword. On one hand, business in the border towns is doing quite well. On the other, we have to deal with more Massholes telling us how “wonderful” their little socialist paradise is, and watch them try to turn us into North Mass.

At this point it pays to shop in NH, expecially if you have large ticket items to purchase. Massachusetts is cutting it’s own throat.

Stupid Democrats. Don't they know they can increase revenue to the State many times over by just raising the state sales tax to 20%? Geez Louise they know nothing about echonomics.
The boneheaded, moron governor hasn’t even the slightest grasp of Economics 101; raising taxes simply causes people to go elsewhere and/or buy less. And this is doubly true in a recession. Meanwhile, the quality of life in Marxachusetts continues to disintegrate.
Dear Governor Patrick: Thanks very much for helping our state. We’re making lots of money now thanks to your tax increases! Keep it up!

Retailers are right. I know people in the south suburbs of Chicago that drive into Indiana to buy certain things.
