Jet halted at LAX; two men are removed by police

A plane was stopped from taking off from Los Angeles International Airport, and two men on board were taken into custody, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. LAPD Lt. John Romero said the men, who appeared to be of Middle Eastern descent, were acting suspiciously. A law enforcement source said at least one of the men ran into a restroom on the plane and appeared to hide while the New York-bound jet was taxiing on the runway, according to the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the case was ongoing. The flight crew confronted the two men and made the decision to stop the plane before it took off, the source said. The men were taken into custody by heavily armed law enforcement officials. The plane has been taken to a remote area of the airport to be searched by a bomb squad, sources said. The LAPD's anti-terrorism unit and the FBI are on the case, but the source said it's too early to tell whether terrorism played any role in the incident. FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said that she was aware of only one person being detained for questioning after the person failed to comply with airline safety regulations and directions of the crew.

This is outlandish overreaction. When somebody runs to the lavatory on an airplane just before take-off, ignoring flight attendants’ instructions to return to their seat, the obvious assumption should be that the person had an emergency related to bodily functions. The situation should be reported to the control tower, per a need to delay take-off. Then have flight attendants wait a reasonable length of time and make reasonable efforts to communicate (understanding that a non-English speaker may not be able to come up with the English words for “diarrhea” or “major menstrual leak”) to try to find out what the problem is and whether the passenger may need medical attention, BEFORE treating the situation like a potential terrorist threat. We really need to start employing some common sense or the terrorists will win without ever committing another terrorist act. Why would a terrorist engage in patently obvious disruptive behavior BEFORE a plane takes off?

There were two people involved and in addition to the bathroom incident, people said they were acting suspiciously. Now, did we have two people who had choreographed explosive diarrhea? How does that dance work?

1) explosive diarrhea.....There's a whole new perspective on that after the recent terrorist tried to blow up a plane by detonating an anally-inserted explosive into his too-stupid-to-live rectum. Rectum? It didn't nearly, it danged DID kill him!

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said that she was aware of only one person being detained for questioning after the person failed to comply with airline safety regulations and directions of the crew.Probably the inital report was garbled. Most likely, the two people were travelling together, but only one bolted for the lavatory.

Oh, maybe, to create terror?
How do you think the passengers felt? Maybe you should email your comments to those folks.
