President Obama will travel to Copenhagen to make a pitch for Chicagos Olympic bid, White House officials have confirmed to NBC News.
Obama will leave for Denmark Thursday night, hours after his wife Michelle departs for the vote. The president made the final decision Saturday night after returning from the G20 summit in Pittsburgh.
The announcement ends months of speculation of whether the president would lend his considerable fame to the pitch. The president has dropped hints all month long that he may attend the event.
Last week he sent an advance team to Copenhagen just in case he could make it ...

Not to mention the tons of airplane fuel to be burned.

Separate planes, a few hours apart, is piggy beyond belief. I would love to know who all is on those planes.
I can imagine any number of Oboomba cronies have bought up adjacent properties.

"General Stanley McChrystal told CBS reporter David Martin in a television interview that aired Sunday on 60 Minutes that he's only spoken with the President once in the 70 days since being appointed by Obama to oversee our efforts in Afghanistan."
Never in my life, have I seen such a completely revolting group of people. GET THOSE SQUATTERS OUT OF OUR WHITE HOUSE. 2012 seems so far away.
To be among the truly elite, you must be on the platform with Daley and Obama(s)

Whenever powerful people gather, a certain hierarchy takes shape, and the show of support for Chicago’s bid in Copenhagen will be no exception.
For starters, the International Olympic Committee limits Chicago’s official delegation to 60 people. Ten of those people, plus the two U.S. delegates to the International Olympic Committee, will be on the platform during Chicago 2016’s presentation to the IOC. The remaining 50 people will be on the floor of the Bella Center.
The rest will be tucked away in a viewing room.
Chicago 2016 has been guarding the list of the 60 people as if it were the ignition code to a nuclear weapon. But Chicago Confidential is going to take an educated guess at identifying the 10 VIPs who’ll grace the platform.
Patrick Ryan, Michelle Obama, President Barack Obama (if he shows) and Oprah Winfrey are shoo-ins. (Oprah isn’t going to travel halfway across the globe to sit in the audience or a viewing room.) Mayor Richard Daley and Lori Healey, Daley’s former chief of staff and president of 2016, also will be up there.
My hunch is that the remaining four spots will include someone involved in the Olympics year-round, such as U.S. Olympic Committee acting CEO Stephanie Streeter, and someone with political prominence, such as presidential adviser Valerie Jarrett.
The group also needs a former Olympian; Edwin Moses ‘ name has been floated. And it needs a Paralympian; Linda Mastandrea, a Chicago attorney and longtime wheelchair athlete, would be ideal for that spot.

Sorry, but yes it is. Face the facts.
I’ve been there several times. Each time I couldn’t wait to leave. Beautiful? Uh, not hardly. Dirty and ugly. There is no amount of money that you could pay me to live there.
America's clowns coming home to Roost.
Whats wrong with Rio? Its gorgeous. It would be a heckova lot better than a dirty grimy industrial city on a freezing lake.

Amen, I’m pulling for Rio of course, but I fear the fix is in. I wonder how much it cost us.
Coming from Florida? Stones, glass houses, et al.
I would NEVER call it a toilet .. visually, physically .. it’s a stunningly beautiful city and very clean. The architecture alone .. much vintage .. is simply magnificent.
It’s that filthy underbelly of politics, government, unions .. the control over which they seem to have over the lives of the citizens.
Anyone visiting would be delighted with the scenic views of the city, the incredible mecca it is for fine and unique dining and shopping... it’s a big, multi-dimensioinal, exciting city.
All big cities are a stew of many ingredients and elements. Severe murder and crime seems centralized mostly on the south. The biggest of big city problems are hidden from the occasional visitor .. only visible when one examines how a resident is affected in their daily routine lives by the overlord’s policies and Machine dominance.
And in the balance of all the above, it seems an inconceivable location for the Olympics.
Does anyone seriously believe that the president would take a quick trip to Copenhagen with the possibility of coming back empty-handed? If the president is going, its because he knows that Chicago has already won. Hes going.

Not a doubt in my mind you are right. The big Wookie went separately so she can hang out and shop, eat and play with her ghetto friends, on our dime.
LOL ... and a cherubim hanging on the One’s skirt .. how appropriate.
Beyond DESPICABLE!! Pray for our
dear brave military, fighting the
enemy from without and within.
God bless and protect them. St.
Michael, be their defender in
battle.
Sorry to those I offended but serious save the words stunningly beautiful for places that deserve it such as tropical islands, beautiful vistas in south america, the grand canyon, sunsets in Hawaii etc...it’s kind of like calling pro-sports players “heroes”.
Agreed on the brick home theory. I think it was sloppy writing by the two authors. And it took two to write this stuff. Is that a guvmint project or what!
“Some people seem to think that the president is taking time away from more important things to go to Copenhagen to lobby for Chicago to get the 2016 games. Theyre wrong. He is taking time away from more important things to go get the credit for bringing the Olympics to Chicago. Does anyone seriously believe that the president would take a quick trip to Copenhagen with the possibility of coming back empty-handed? If the president is going, its because he knows that Chicago has already won. Hes going.”
Correct. I posted on another Olympic thread that I heard a reporter being interviewed on the radio over the weekend who said Congressman Bobby Rush met with the African Olympic delegates and got their assurances that they will vote for the Chicago site. If Obama is going, its to be there when it happens to bask in the glory.
Put simply — I like how you think.
