The Economy is a Lie, Too
Baltimore Chronicle & Sentinel ^ | 23 September 2009 | Paul Craig Roberts

Posted on 09/26/2009 12:11:59 AM PDT by underthestreetlite

Americans cannot get any truth out of their government about anything, the economy included. Americans are being driven into the ground economically, with one million school children now homeless, while Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke announces that the recession is over.

The spin that masquerades as news is becoming more delusional. Consumer spending is 70% of the US economy. It is the driving force, and it has been shut down. Except for the super rich, there has been no growth in consumer incomes in the 21st century. Statistician John Williams of shadowstats.com reports that real household income has never recovered its pre-2001 peak.

In the midst of the highest unemployment since the Great Depression what kind of a fool do you need to be to think that there is a shortage of qualified US workers?

Investment and production is the real driving force of the economy.

How much can a an economy produce without anyone to buy the goods or services being produced?

How long will investors invest in production when nothing is selling?

A functioning capitalist economy requires production, distribution, and consumption, according to Adam Smith (but then, what the heck did he know about it?).

Production requires investment. People will not invest if they are worried about government takeovers, quickly changing regulations and high taxes. It is too chaotic an atmosphere for anyone to want to invst in anything. This is what happened in the 30’s when FDR assaulted capitalism.

Its like they are trying to cause another Depression on purpose for reasons of political power.

Your government has been lying to you for decades and you won’t believe it as you are brainwashed to a degree I never have believed possible. It’s NOT a mystery, it’s the biggest con in history.

And you wonder why you can’t understand today’s government.

I keep saying there will be no recovery w/o employment, no consumer spending w/o employment and this xmas holiday shopping season is gonna be bad, really bad... many more businesses will fail after the dead retail season, resulting in more unemployment.

Basically, PCG is telling these companies who they must hire. It’s unfortunate that in the current economy, a good candidate like the one he cited can’t get a job...at least where she wants. But I can’t blame these companies for wanting to cut costs in a huge recession. Companies don’t exist to employ people. They exist to make profits. If there’s some other more nefarious reason for those companies not hiring the kid PCG wants to hire, perhaps he should have shed more light on that rather than hyperventilating. As for the economy, yes it sucks. He missed his chance to talk about how that wonderful budget busting stimulus package was bringing about bunches of new civil engineering and architecture jobs.

This economic collapse is by design from those in DC who desire to give us “hope and change” in Marxism and serfdom. This is nothing less than a coup. They’ve intentionally bankrupted this country (or they truly are fools) by destroying the dollar and burying us in debt to bring on this collapse. This way it makes it easier for you to submit (you’ll realize there’s not much you won’t do for a crumb of bread when you’re hungry). You’ll be glad to be subservient to tyranny when your wet, cold and starving.

These people are evil and clear threat to the Republic and the individual.

The problem is called “Career Politicians” and how they finance their campaigns.
We need throw out the old campaign laws and start over.
The new campaign law should start with “Only eligible voters can contribute to………..” along with total transparency, mandatory prison time, removal from office.

JOIN THE TAX REVOLT
STOP YOUR SPENDING
Don’t give to Washington
Don’t give it to Wall Street.
Don’t put it in the Local Bank
Take your extra cash and bury it in the “back yard”.

And above all tell your “career politicians” why you have stopped spending.
Tell Washington to stop their out of control spending.

Producers will not produce unless they have buyers and projected sales. Investors will not invest unless they expect a return on their investment, which will only happen with sales of the produced goods and services.

Our economic perspective has been turned upside-down over the past few decades. Perhaps we will have to get knocked back to a barter economy for people to get their heads out of their butts.

Moving paper around does not create wealth. Trading the same ragged dollar around the table for personal services does not create wealth. Even investing another ragged dollar for others to pass around the table does not create wealth.

Of economic resources, there is land, labor, and capital. From the land comes minerals, timber, crops, livestock, etc., which labor turns into saleable items, some for consumption, some for further stages of production. Consumers purchase these output either for their personal use or as inputs into further production. These processes operate with or without outside capital infusion; however, once production and consumption are perpetual and growing, outside capital infusion can be applied to more efficiently balance supply and demand.

Investment of and by itself, and disregarding consumption, distribution, and production, is simply gambling with phantoms.

Why don't you lean more toward educating yourself to the point you can express an idea instead of dropping someone else's name, and expecting that to speak for you. It doesn't.

So consumers cannot purchase what doesn’t get produced. Right.
