ACORN filed suit today in Maryland against conservative filmmakers James OKeefe, Hannah Giles and conservative Web site Breitbart.com for secretly taping the organizations employees at its Baltimore office.
In the complaint, ACORN alleges that the filmmakers entered into the organizations offices in July with a hidden camera and microphone and taped employees Tonja Thompson and Shera Williams. Both employees are listed as plaintiffs on the complaint, filed in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City.
ACORN is seeking $500,000 for each employee and $1 million for the organization in damages.
This is a slap suit, nothing more.
When will Smoking Gun have the court documents posted?
ACORN can *suck it.* What, exactly, is their complaint?
I don't think they have any deep thinkers over there...
Discovery will be interesting, but how the case is framed may also matter. The defendants may also be able to move to federal court under diversity jurisdiction....
Another rule is: there is no fifth amendment in civil law.
Another is: any question that an opponent refuses to answer is deemed to be answered however the defendant wants. the opponent cannot object to any answer that is given.
I hope the blogosphere, twitter, online news turn this into an OJ/Watergate event with minute by minute updates.
Either the judge will disallow any motion to access Acorn's records, or the records are already gone. The fix was in before the suit was filed.
The only remotely possible way for this to get a fair hearing is to make it a federal case and move it out of an Acorn stronghold.
There is a reason we don't have to worry about pig feces falling from the sky . . . .
Isn’t the former Attorney General of Maryland the one picked to do the internal investigation of ACORN?..or was that Mass.?
1) This is long-ago decided. How do you think those hidden camera TV “Consumer Protector” exposees on things like Auto Mechanics are able to do that?
2) As mention above, acorn is opening itself up for an insane amount of Discovery.
3) Even if they win, a couple of 20-somethings won’t have 2 million dollars anyway. The very fact this was filed ensures at best a Pyrrhic victory.
Discovery will be very interesting.
Nope, not even in MD. The civil portion of the statute is clear. There is NO WAY that ACORN can prevail here. Of course, ACORN has deep pockets, so hopefully the journalists will create a legal defense fund, which I'm sure will be teeming with donations.
“Oh please Brer Fox, whatever you do, please don’t throw me into the briar patch.”
Let's see........ there's the husband murderer. And the creepy guy with "conections in Tijuana" (would those be drug connections?). And what about ACORN'S connections to this guy?
"Get your pencils and paper ready. Today. we're going to learn how to use HUD federal funds to open a brothel
utilizing underage children imported from the Third World. And when I become president, this will all be legal."
"And get my govt check ready."
I'm in as soon as its organized...
ACORN files suit against filmmakers
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Law suit? Doesn’t that lead to discovery?
Wow! I bet those film makers would just **love** discovery.
I have no clue as to why ACORN thinks that any law has been broken. As far as I can tell all that happened was some one video taped something. That is not an interception of anything. It is a sting and whistle blower operation
ACORN is hoping it gets settled out of court.
Gee, can I report Obama’s great friend the fraudulent Prof Gates?
with his $500 “research grants” to each of 20 of his Harvard friends (how much Harvard research do you get for $500 these days ???)
And that human POS Rahm Emanuel,
both of whom ran HUGE tax exempt scams ...
