TEHRAN, Iran A military aircraft taking part in an army parade crashed near Tehran on Tuesday, state television said, as the Fars news agency reported seven people killed in a plane crash in the same area.
The television gave no further details of the incident.
Earlier the official IRNA news agency said a plane "which was conducting manoeuvres during the parade crashed in the village of Vali Abad," near Tehran.
Fars quoted the Iran Red Crescent relief chief Ahmad Esfandiari as saying that relief workers had found the bodies of seven passengers from a plane which crashed in an area called Qarchak, south of Tehran.

Another report from a source which can’t be posted here, said that Iran lost it’s only AWACS plane and an F-5E Tiger when the 2 collided.

A Freeper on another thread said it was an AWACS, the only one they own.
If so, Israel just caught a major break.
Weeding out the dissident generals?
Or is Israel practising counter ops befire a strike?
Just asking
That jibes with my post.
Actually, it was very old - an Iraqi plane from Iran/Iraq war
There was a link to debka about that AWACS crash and, even better which makes me wonder about the validity of the story, the plane or planes crashed into the tomb of Ayatollah Khomeini (sp?).
They’ll blame Isreal, I’m sure....
How long before the Green Wave gets the blame?
Allah and Obama’s fault!
Yeah, according to Wikipedia they have an IL-76 Candid that had a radome grafted onto it by Iraq. They flew it to Iran in 1991. Some reports say that the AWACS system on it was no longer operational.
BTW, we were supposed to sell them E-3s, but the revolution prevented that and the Saudis ended up with the jets.
>>>Another report from a source which cant be posted here, said that Iran lost its only AWACS
Heretofore the Iranians had successfully been using their several remaining serviceable F14s in the AWACS role. No overhead radardome but the very long range fire control system for the Phoenix missile made a passable substitute.
