In declaring that it is time for Middle East peace "without preconditions," President Obama used his speech to the U.N. General Assembly Wednesday to fire a warning at Israel that "America does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements."
Obama's stark declaration, which drew applause, was coupled with a call for Palestinians to end their "incitement of Israel."
But it was the use of the U.N. forum to carry the settlement message to Israel that drew the most enthusiastic response on the floor -- and incredulous reaction outside its walls.
Obama just put Israel "on the chopping block," said former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton.
Obama said he met Tuesday with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was not in attendance at the speech, and agreed that the two have made some progress in both strengthening security and facilitating freedom of movement, which have allowed the economy in the West Bank to grow.
But more progress is needed, he said.

NNY: ...can't tell you how many times I've heard that from my co-religionists...makes me sick to my stomach...
It's to bad they don't recognize that we remember the Holocaust and believe that the land was given to the Jews by God. I appreciate your sentiment.
Good point about the settlements, but I was referring to Israel’s need to come to a decision — on their own — to deal with a very real and potentially lethal situation. This requires decisive leadership that Netanyahu, at least to this point, has not publicly and effectively demonstrated from my perspective. But you are correct: I think the Israeli leadership — although not saying so openly — has concluded they cannot count on American support with the current administration.
Coulda, woulda, shoulda?
Wake up, America! Wake up and smell the stench of tyranny that’s growing stronger day by day.
What about the legitimacy of this phOny?
I've seen a lot of people say that, but they've forgotten some of the things that Hilary said about Israel before she ran for US Senator from the state of New York. She was just as anti-Israel (maybe even more so) than Barry. She moderated her views before the election with the help of the NY press, and the willful ignorance of the New York Jewish communities.
The American military will never let it happen.
If given the orders to install Manuel Zelaya as dictator for life in Honduras, would the US Military let that happen? Would they obey the orders of Obama to overthrow the constitutional government of Honduras and install Zelaya or would they remove Obama?
I actually believe Bibi has been playing the smarter hand. Remember, he's still running a coalition government. Bibi has been letting Obama be "Obama", and in the process, Barry has done much to alienate himself from an Israeli population that was already skittish of him immediately after his election.
Bibi has solidified his position in Israel as the anti-Obama, giving him the much-needed political capital he'll need when he does eventually act, decisively I'll add.
You’re messin’ with God’s chosen people, Barry. Big mistake...
Netanyahu is in a tough spot. He’s between a rock and hard place. Bibi knows that Obama doesn’t support Israel the way most past presidents have. I don’t think he’s too worred about Obama dropping the $4-$5 billion we send them in foreign and military aid. I think there is overwhelming support for Israel in the US Congress and among the American people. Enough support on both sides of the aisle to stop any outrageous decisions Obama might make.
Take that, Jews. Next time vote for whichever candidate ISN’T moslem. And isn’t a commie. And doesn’t hate Judeo-Christian values.
If my comment sounds insensitive, that’s because it is. It’s going to take a lot more than rudeness to wake Jews up to the suicide they’re committing by supporting DemonRats.
Younger people are perhaps too young to realize that it wouldn’t have mattered WHERE the Jewish homeland ended up. The Jew-hating Arabs would have flocked there ANYway and the result would have been exactly the same.
The Revelation of Jesus Christ in chapter 2:9 is how God tells about some of these Jews.
“ I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty,(but thou art rich)and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not,but are the synagogue of Satan.”
To say nothing of the unilateral disenfranchisement of secured creditors for the favor of unsecured creditors in the UAW/GM debacle. Barry interjected himself into a private contract, without judicial review, reversing one of the most solemn and long-standing tenants of American contract law - that secured creditors will have a place at the table before unsecured creditors.
What's even more discouraging, the Judiciary showed absolutely no appetite to right this unquestionable wrong.
Hillary is probably just as evil as Obama but she would have more opposition. Too many people are still in a swoon over Obama because they feel they made history and proved their open-mindedness by voting for a black man.
Many of those people, who would happily eat bovine excrement if Obama told them it was chocolate, would fight Hillary tooth and nail on issues they meekly let Obama get away with.
After all - they don’t want anyone to accuse them of being racists.
The real world is more complex than your neat formula suggests...
Probably.
They swear an allegiance to the constitution and to protect the country from enemies foreign and domestic. Honduras would not be a threat to our constitution.
Would they obey the orders of Obama to overthrow the constitutional government of Honduras and install Zelaya or would they remove Obama?
I think they would do it.
Obama’s Quote - “The people of the world want change,” he said, noting that “just as no nation should be forced to accept the tyranny of another nation, no individual should be forced to accept the tyranny of their own government.”
Oh, good... I should not be forced to accept the tyranny of my government. Finally something he says that I agree with.
