Armed with a shotgun, wearing masks over their faces and carrying rope, the two men knocked on the door of the Taylor home. When Taylor, 58, a former part-time police officer, answered the door, the two men shoved their way inside.
The men had Taylor on the floor, strangling him, and were demanding money and the location of a safe when Taylor's wife, hearing the commotion, came downstairs and told the men she had expensive jewelry upstairs. While they were focused on the jewelry box, Taylor got his handgun. The man with the shotgun pointed it at Taylor, who opened fire, shooting the man several times.

So, I guess it's lookin' good so far!
Imagine going through something like that. Kudos to the lady for a very smart play. It’s always nice to have a happy ending.
Don’cha just love a happy ending?
Score one for the good guys!! close to home too. There has been a rash of home invasions and burglaries in this area, I hope this will make some of the thieves think twice.
The boys' first mistake.
While they were focused on the jewelry box, Taylor got his handgun...
Their second mistake.
The man with the shotgun pointed it at Taylor, who opened fire, shooting the man several times. The second man fled to the basement, and Taylor pursued, shooting him several times as well.
Three strikes, yer out!
Good shooting, Mr. Taylor. Two more worthless piles of excrement removed from the planet.
> Police later arrested the 17-year-old getaway driver
> still in the truck, and he was held Tuesday on
> preliminary charges of home invasion until formal charges
> are filed today by the Vermilion County State’s
> Attorney’s Office.
Shouldn’t the charge be murder?
If I remember correctly, if ANYBODY gets killed during the commission of a crime, the surviving perpetrators get charged with MURDER.
But in Illinois, only the law and elite can arm themselves in this fashion. Every one else are considered criminals by Illinois and/or Chicago law.
This is why I love Mississippi and the Castle Doctrine!
I wonder why those criminal morons chose the police officers home? Perhaps the home looked like ‘rich’ old people lived there and an easy target not knowing the owner was an ex-police officer. They deserved what they got!
Peasants don't own castles so they can't protect themselves under "Castle Doctrine" Laws.
it’s those bored Amish yutes again no doubt..
Most places in Ill Noise (Chicago a significant exception), one can carry on one’s own property. In those locales, it would not have required a police officer to have played this scenario out.

First rule. Have the gun in your hand when you answer the door.
Went to high school with Pat Hartshorn. Good guy. I expect the former cop will be found to have acted in self defense. I always love to see criminals get their due. Two less scumbags to prey on innocent people.
Capital Murder
In a just world, people like this would get a medal for ridding society of these vermin!
