Like many mothers from this area, I was astonished and sickened to see the brutal beating on the Belleville school bus that made headlines all over the country. I have no idea if this was racially motivated as I wasn't there and I don't want to fuel that speculation. If someone is beating the snot out of you, it doesn't matter what the motivation is -- it is reprehensible no matter what. But, like many people, I wondered what on earth were the lives and backgrounds of the bullies like that they would behave like this?
Monday night, I was stunned when news footage of this story showed the father of one of the bullies in a Roman collar and he was bemoaning the fact that this video had ruined THEIR lives! Now, I am not one to believe that the sins of the child are necessarily a reflection of the parent. I understand that lots of well-meaning parents are exasperated by wild children. But I cannot believe that a MINISTER would be whining about how this had hurt his family instead of expressing concern for the life his child ruined!

In order to get more rear ends in the pews, clergy will often overlook gross misbehavior. Never mind that it poses a stumbling block to the gospel, they want those seats filled!
“I thrashed the bounder”,
Do you write bodice-busting, cleavage-heaving romance novels in your spare time? :)
It’s gems like these that keep me coming back. Too funny!
No, but I agree with the President our debate has coarsened over time. I think it would have been much more suitable if Joe Wilson had shouted, “You prevaricate!”
Why is he still your preacher??
I definitely admire you for home schooling - wish I had done it with my kid but then we would’ve killed each other after awhile! Not really - I have a few friends who home school and their kids are super all the way around! Too bad we can’t deduct from our taxes so as not to support the lousy govt schools...
So, if a crowd of white guys beats up a black guy because they don’t like the seat he chooses, it’s not a hate crime as long as they don’t use any racial words during the incident. That’s one way to banish the stupid hate crimes. Just keep your mouth shut while you pound on people, and I’m sure Jesse Jackson and obama will stand up for you and say it was NOT a hate crime.
I agree; however, half the Congress would have thought Joe had accused him of sexual perversity!
Thanks. I love validation. :)
I see where you’re coming from.
About 15 or 20 years ago a 20 something kid forced a car off I-25 in Colorado Springs, started shouting at the old man in the car that he had been cut off. Things got even hairier as the kid started to come through the car window at the man.
The man pulled out a pistol and shot him dead. Self defense, no charges.
A few months later I heard the father on local talk radio. It took less than two minutes of listening to see where the kid got his attitude. That attitude came from his father, who set the kid up to be killed.
The host had the father on for an hour, and during that time the father confirmed over and over again the underlying cause of his sons death.
Might have been a Roman Collar, but I dont think it was a Roman Catholic priest.
;)
That was the bus — not the school. My son’s GF is the daughter of a dentist. She originally started at the Catholic High School (with my son) and transferred to the public school because it had more opportunities for the subjects that interested her. I can assure you, if it were a “bad” school, she wouldn’t be there. Her mom is one of the most cautious and involved parents I know. That said, I also know several parents whose kids went to the Catholic grade school with my kids and are now attending Belleville West and NOT ONE of them would ever send their kids on the bus. Clearly, there is some sort of reason for concern, preceding this incident, about the bus situation.
Again, I’m not prepared to brand the father a bully or suggest his breeding led to the kid being a bully. (I don’t know the man or his situation. Maybe he is a Reverend Wright type, maybe not. I don’t know.) I’m just stunned that, at least from what I saw in the clip, the minister seems more concerned with how this is affecting his family than he is with how his child treated a fellow child of God.
Yeah, but don’t Anglicans and Episcopalians wear them , too? Also, I’m allowing for the remotest of possibilities that he is a Roman Catholic priest who was allowed to adopt a troubled child, in which case I would cut him some slack....
LOL!
I believe it. How sad.
My literary excesses run more along the lines of Raymond Chandler.
I’m saying that muslim and black liberation theology
“churches” promote violence against white people,
Christians and Jews.
In the United States you can be a Pastor of a church
that worships the devil. So don’t make the mistake
of assuming the title connotes benevolence and peace.
