Palin Speaks to Investors in Hong Kong
The New York Times ^ | September 23, 2009 | MARK McDONALD

Posted on 09/23/2009 5:04:29 AM PDT by Virginia Ridgerunner

Sarah Palin, in what was billed as her first speech overseas, spoke on Wednesday to Asian bankers, investors and fund managers.

A number of people who heard the speech in a packed a hotel ballroom, which was closed to the media, said Mrs. Palin spoke from notes for 90 minutes and that she was articulate, well-prepared and even compelling.

“The speech was wide-ranging, very balanced, and she beat all expectations,” said Doug A. Coulter, head of private equity in the Asia-Pacific region for LGT Capital Partners.

“She didn’t sound at all like a far-right-wing conservative. She seemed to be positioning herself as a libertarian or a small-c conservative,” he said, adding that she mentioned both Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher. “She brought up both those names.”

You are right.
I re-read that post, and I have just read the New York Times piece. The same Cameron Sinclair is quoted in the Tines article, and he is pretty complementary.
Overall, a surprisingly fair, balanced and pretty good article about Saran from The Times. Very unusual. Ummm..what is their game? Something going on I don't know about?

Thanks for reposting this.

Her comment on Pelosi is a zinger. I expect that witch to hold up any defense appropriations to push healthcare. She is playing with our troops lives.

Good for Sarah!!!!

Contrast Sarah Palin's story, and record, with anybody on the political landscape. She has meager beginnings, and a life which most don't understand. They look at photo ops and see a photo. People link that to a lifetime, but don't connect to what it represents.

How many people around here have hauled a net, empty or full? How many have raised a family and run a business? How about juggling being a local person-of-change, into a bed in the Governor's mansion? What kind of person can do that?

She sold the State's helicopter, fired the cook, and cleaned house in Alaska. But, every year, she was back in the boat with Todd and the kids. Every year, before they made this notoriety, they had to keep fishing until the larder was full. Life depends on it...

Too many people depend on the gum't! Look at the Katrina "victims"! How many are still living in FEMA trailers, and eating gum't cheese?

... Mr. Goodé, an African-American who said he did some campaign polling for President Obama

He's a black American.

Mr. Goodé, a New Yorker who said he would never vote for Mrs. Palin, said she acquitted herself well.

He thinks the white candidate is bright, but won't vote for her?

Clearly, Mr. Goode' is a RACIST and SEXIST.

(hey!, this is fun)

Great summary. Thanks. Go Sarah!

Keep writing her off as Caribou Barbie at your own risk!

Credit to the NYTimes for a balanced report.

The stereotypical “greed is good” big C “conservative” invariably turns out to be a registered Democratic and a big contributor to that party.

the picture in #21 is great. Ms Palin knows how to dress - honoring the culture to which she’s speaking while maintaining her own style and substance.

She gets it:

CC: Palin pro Nuclear and energy independance advocate. Tap the god given resources of America and not foreign entities.
CM: "nukular"!!!
CC: Natural gas IS the future - Palin
CC: Palin wants 'all of the above' energy policy to ween ourselves off natural resouces. Says we need to 'drill'
CC: Death panels - governments not being honest. Can't increase healthcare and cut costs - Palin
CC: Palin says China key to global push out of recession. China needs to be responsible stakeholder. (and free).
CM: Palin warns against rise of a one-nation asia, citing missles pointed at taiwan.
CC: China needs to ease off Taiwan and to back off supporting Sudan and Zimbabwe. Notes Tibet issue - Palin (on a tear)

The only thing squishy here are the brains of some. The quote was a subjective opinion on her speech from people who have no idea of Conservatism. If you would read her remarks she came out for small Government and Reaganism. If that's bad for you... we can't help it.

Show me what you find "unconservative" in her remarks.

Ronald Reagan: I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism.

"Squishy", huh?

Now she needs to go to Tegucigalpa and give a speech on “The Meaning of Constitutional Democracy and the Honduran Crisis,” and call out Obama and Hillary for their pro-communist dictator garbage.

Ronald Wilson Reagan was not a "small 'c' conservative". He was an unabashed Conservative with a capital C, a capital O, a capital N, a capital S, and on down the line. If Palin can't get behind that then she has no right to try and align with is memory.

When she resigned as governor in July, Mrs. Palin cited numerous reasons for stepping down, including more than $500,000 in legal fees that she and her husband, Todd, incurred because of 15 ethics complaints filed against her during her two and a half years in office.

No mention at all by the Slimes that every one of those complaints was dismissed.

Yap yap yap.

More jealous and insipid gobbledygook from the know-nothing crowd. She did not bill herself as a "small c conservative"... the NYT voiced just the uninformed opinion of a listener.

You can't show which of her remarks was "unconservative"? Figures. Everything she said was delightful small government and pro-freedom conservatism.

But I didn't expect you to actually be able to read and comprehend the article correctly.

capital C, a capital O, a capital N, a capital S

Great. You learned the alphabet. Way to go!
