Irene Vilar worries that her self-described "abortion addiction" will be misunderstood, twisted by the pro-life movement to deny women the right to choose.
Her book, "Impossible Motherhood," which will be released by Other Press on Oct. 6, chronicles her own dark choices: 15 abortions in 16 years, much of it as a married woman.
As press on the book has begun to leak out, Vilar -- a literary agent and editor --- says she has already sensed "an inkling of hatred."
Vilar has scheduled only closed-door interviews and will not do a book tour. At the urging of her husband, they have made sure all public property records do not reflect her name, so she cannot be targeted at their home.
"I am worried about my safety and the hate mail," she told ABCNews.com in a telephone interview as her home-schooled children were at work on a painting project.
"No book like this has ever been written," she told ABCNews.com. "I just imagine the 'baby killer' and I could be a poster child for that kind of fundamentalism. And there are my little kids in all of that."
Today, at 40, the Latina author has two young children, but her troubled past continues to haunt her well into motherhood.
She grew up in the shadow of her notorious grandmother Puerto Rican nationalist Lolita Lebron, who stormed the Capitol steps with a gun in 1954. Lebron served 25 years in jail for the crime until receiving a pardon from President Carter in 1979.
Her mother committed suicide by throwing herself from a moving car when Vilar was 8 and two of her brothers were heroin addicts.

Carter never met a terrorist he didn’t love.
What do you want to bet she's offended by folks who chose TO reproduce?
Is she what we could call a “wise Latina?”
She’s had 3 husbands and dated Frank Langella and Ted Danson.

She signed a consent form agreeing to every one of those abortions, yet she views herself as society's victim.
I completely agree. More self destructive behavior. She needs to see a good, professional psychotherapist and stop this nonsense.
Nothing brings out the hipocrisy of the abortion loving left more than the discussion of multiple abortions.
Abortion proponents swear that the “fetus” is not a baby. It is not a human. It is not a life, and then they howl with scorn and disgust when women have multiple abortions.
I have no problem clipping one of my fingernails vs. all the nails on my fingers and toes. You can remove by liposuction a goodly amount of rancid fat from Oprah’s ass.
The pro-abortion people say that a fetus is no different from clipping your nails or sucking some fat out of Oprah’s ass. Fine. Then what of 10 abortions. What of 30. If a fetus is not a human life — if it is OK to terminate 1 or 2, then it should be OK to terminate 10 or 20. Right?
Yet the abortion loving left go absolutely nuts over multiple abortions, and particularly into the double-digits. What hypocrisy. Because they know that aborting 10 children is not like me clipping the nails on 10 of my fingers. Yet, when I broach this kind of logic, their brains melt down because they don’t have the logic and reason to process it.
They are caught in their own trap, that a single abortion is the mother’s right to choose to abort a lump of growing protoplasm because they are so certain life has not yet begun, yet a woman who has 12 abortions is an evil slut murderer.
The hypocrisy of the left is illogical, knows no bounds, and is impossible to reason with.
There will come a future time when the hundreds of millions babies we aborted will be seen as the ultimate holocaust and we will be condemned forever, soundly, for letting it occur.
Most were using contraception incorrectly. Here’s an idea....there’s no rule in the book that says you can’t use more than one method of birth control in case something goes wrong. Good advice for the guys who stupidly depend on women to do all the work.
Face of evil.
To be fair, I can’t get too excited about the numbers game here. Abortion is evil. It is evil with 15 murdered children. It is evil with one. 15 aborted children is not 15 times more evil than one. Evil is evil.
I had a lady boss who conceived both her children while on contraception. She knew contraception was no panacea. Even if it works for most people most of the time, it is no panacea.
Don't you love how liberals mangle the language?
Now the right to kill what you've created is the same as the right to create.
Something is not right in this story. I think she’s an attention whore, but I seriously doubt the 15 abortions in 16 years. Add to it, two babies born. I don’t believe she physically could do it. Forcing her cervix open unnaturally 15 times in 16 years, no way she carried her last two babies to term. According to the article, those pregnancies were normal, so yeah, no freakin’ way.
She’s a sick person, but there’s no way she killed 15 of her children.
This witch is trying to make herself out as the victim of evil pro-lifers before the book is even known. No one forced her to write about her disgusting life. No one ever heard about her vile behavior before this.
Mass murderer.
I’m having a hard time believing the choicers will warm up to her either.
I mean - she’s had how many abortions? at $300 to $400 per procedure?
Even if you don’t even focus on the obvious death of so many babies - how stupid is she?
Why wouldn’t she just spend alot less money on something to prevent the pregnancies?
You’re old enough to know how to spell “altar.”
Nothing personal; I’m just fed up with misspellings on FR....
