Carl Jung and the Holy Grail of the Unconscious - NYTimes.com -- NY Times
New York Times ^ | September 16, 2009 | SARA CORBETT

This is a story about a nearly 100-year-old book, bound in red leather, which has spent the last quarter century secreted away in a bank vault in Switzerland. The book is big and heavy and its spine is etched with gold letters that say “Liber Novus,” which is Latin for “New Book.” Its pages are made from thick cream-colored parchment and filled with paintings of otherworldly creatures and handwritten dialogues with gods and devils. If you didn’t know the book’s vintage, you might confuse it for a lost medieval tome.

Carl Jung read the Writings of Emmanuel Swedenborg while he was in school. These Writings constitute the doctrines of faith for my religion, the General Church of the New Jerusalem. (See my profile page for details and links). We consider Swedenborg's Writings to be Divine Truth and the Word of God. Jung's New Book constitutes further revelations that should be brought in for study by all Swedenborgians for evidence that there is an infinity deep spiritual sense and all things that are created out of love have a deeper meaning if we are willing to look for them.

I use the Word to begin my day. I open it to a random page and just read: Job 4:7 "Remember now, who ever perished being innocent? Or where were the upright ever cut off? 8 Even as I have seen, Those who plow iniquity And sow trouble reap the same. 9 By the blast of God they perish, And by the breath of His anger they are consumed." God is pure Divine Love and is incapable of Anger. Anger is what an individual perceived if his soul has not been tested and purified. I have very good friends who hold opinions on things different than my own. That does not mean I should shut them out of my life and have no communication with them. I don't scream at them "You're a Liar!" in Church for heavens sake! We need to get past that.

I love that part of the article where it says some believe no one should be allowed to read it! LOL What are they afraid of? The truth? Challenge their small view of things by a founder of modern psychology? Please. Let people think and reason for themselves. Reading the article, it seems to me that labeling someone as psychotic should be viewed as high praise for those that feel God's passion. A person that just sits by and watches the world go by is lost. A passionate person that has lost direction just needs the Word.

We are to reach out to others to help them understand the state of things. Folks seem so bound up in themselves today that it is impossible for them to see the grander picture manifested all around them.

I can lay down with a light cover over me and close my eyes and feel my spirit litterly moving within me. I see images of young boys walking through a house to a kitchen. I heard a voice yesterday say 'rocket ship'. in a Kansas accent. I relaxed some more then went out on the porch with Swedenborg's planets in Space. I just fingered and opened it to the chapter on Moon. I remembered and turned to Saturn and began reading. At paragraph 100 I wrote down CFR (referencing the new light bulb) and looked up Mercury. This book has been studied for years and the meaning was obscure and debated. I know it describes how heaven is joined to the common things around us. I'm planning on doing an interpetation of the work.

I also noted on the front cover 'rock et ship'.Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower.

David Noll's book, The Aryan Christ: The Secret Life of Carl Jung, contains some fascinating insights into the folkloric basis of Jung's new religion. Most of the emblems of his "collective unconscious" could be found in a short shelf of the "back to nature" celebration of peasantry that flourished in his youth. Jung's celebration of paganism included polygamy.

Swedenborg set down doctrine and Jung later the means by which Swedenborg followed. Because someone made some statement in their life about such-and-such does not mean their entire body of work should be tossed in the dust bin.

Look for the good with an open mind. Don't adopt someone else's version of the 'truth'.

Actually the scene in the temple where Jesus flails the money-changers may indicate that you should re-think this one.

Zeal and anger different things... drawn from the same love.

Bookmark for a later read. I spent over 10 years studying Jung and have his complete collected works. Like everything else the liberal elites touch, they have ruined and co-opted Jung’s works to suit their own agendas. Jung was a deeply spiritual and conservative man who was certain of the existence of God....but you would never know that reading the liberal mythology built up around him. Thanks for posting this. I look forward to reading it.

You are welcome. I will also be posting an article on Lincoln who also read Swedenborg. I’ll ping you for that. I look forward to any comments you would share on this. Folks at my Church are linked to this thread.

, Zeal simply means "eagerness and ardent interest in pursuit of something; fervor" (Webster's)

One can be zealous in anything such as riding a bike.

In this case Jesus was zealous in anger. His using a whip to throw the bums out shows that he wasn't happy with the folks.

There are many examples of God being angry. Such as in Jer. 32: 32 when He speaks of the Jews who provoked him to anger by all the evil they did. To the extent that He ejected them from Israel. In Romans 5:9 Paul also speaks of God's wrath saying believing Christ is only the way to escape it because all flesh in itself is under His wrath.

However, it is not true that God's wrath is not love. God's wrath against evil protects the innocent so it is also rooted in love.

Thus, at times anger is God's emotion and is redemptive.

I certainly cannot read the heart of our Lord God Jesus Christ using a Websters dictionary to see the Divine Truth in the Lord's Word.

I do know that when I first introduced my faith here on FR I was very zealous and was having a great time feeling the Lord's presence within me. His power was running through my arms to my finger tips.

I didn't respond in kind but saw all the messages to BE kind.

The Lord is involved in all matters. Language is one of the essentials. Without translations of the Bible where would we be? Defining words correctly is part of delivering the Gospel.

I didn't respond in kind but saw all the messages to BE kind.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. You are not clear. But the point remains that God's wrath is shown many times in the Bible.

He does not allow evil to prey on the innocent; therefore at times His wrath must be delivered.

Many innocents are the victim of evil -- do you watch the news?

Yes, and there will be an ultimate Day of Wrath to punish ALL of it.

But along the way God's wrath comes down in other forms to deal out wrath, including delivery through His people. His patience keeps His wrath from coming down fully now. But that patience doesn't last forever.
