Airplane shoe bomber Richard C. Reid no longer faces severe limits on his prison activities or communications after the Obama administration quietly ended years of hard-nosed curbs against the British-born al-Qaeda terrorist.
This summer the Justice Department halted six years of measures that kept Reid from associating or praying with fellow jailed Muslim terrorists, and limited his access to the news media and pen pals.

The “official” reason given for the clampdown was to prevent Reid from ordering more terrorist acts. But I’m sure what really was on the Bush administration’s mind was to keep him from being glorified, so that future bombers would not look forward to similar adulation. (It’s extremely unlikely that Reid was anything but the sucker at the bottom of a jihadi totem pole.) Obama has done away with that. What’s next, a Charles Manson fan web site?
