Barack Obama has demanded the Pentagon conduct a radical review of US nuclear weapons doctrine to prepare the way for deep cuts in the country's arsenal, the Guardian can reveal.

Obama has rejected the Pentagon's first draft of the "nuclear posture review" as being too timid, and has called for a range of more far-reaching options consistent with his goal of eventually abolishing nuclear weapons altogether, according to European officials.

Some of these warheads were already scheduled for dismantlement.Current plans are to completely retire and dismantle the oldest warhead in the U.S. arsenal, the W62 carried by the Minuteman III missile. Retirement of the W62 began in October 2006, and is being replaced by W87 warheads that have been in storage since they were removed from Peacekeeper (MX) missile upon its retirement.

If you will note the Officer's Oath (copied below) and compare it to the Enlisted Oath, you will notice two things.

First, the Officer's Oath specifies only the Constitution, ~not~ the Chain of Command.



An Officer's duty is clear and uneqivocal.


Second, the mention of the President in the Enlisted Oath assumes that he is at the top of the COC, not recognizing the possibility that he (as in this case) is the domestic enemy.

Perhaps - but if you read the entire article it states that obama has rejected the Pentagon's recommendations on a safe level of arms reductions, and told them he expects massive cuts - with a goal to total elimination
