Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee on Saturday won a 2012 presidential preference straw poll of social and religious conservative activists from 49 states gathered in Washington, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said at an afternoon press briefing at the Omni Shoreham Hotel.
It was sweet revenge for Mr. Huckabee, who narrowly lost a similar poll in 2007 to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
Only in-person voting was permitted in this vote -- Mr. Romney had won with combined Internet and in-person voting.
On Saturday Mr. Huckabee took 28.48 percent of the vote, while Mr. Romney was in a four-way tie for second place with Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Indiana Rep. Mike Pence. All four won 12 percent of the vote in rounded numbers.

These straw polls infuriate me to no end right now as it seems such a waste of time and that time would be better spent getting good conservative candidates on board to run in 2010.
Don’t know anyone personally that wants anyone to run in 2012 who ran in the 2008 primaries.
I’m with the “Draft Thad McCotter” crew.
Is that true?
“America had their say on Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, etc. Please someone fresh in 2012.”
Just because someone run and lost doesn’t mean the are finished forever or they don’t still have something offer. I seem to recall a certain person that lost in the GOP primaries in 1976 and came back in 1980 and was elected President.
With that said, I’m not trying to compare any of the above to Reagan. I don’t have a candidate for 2012. Its way too early. Stopping socialized medicine and the 2010 elections are the focus at the moment. I just wanted to make the point that just because someone has run before and lost doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have another chance.
Actually in some areas Huck governed to the left of Clinton and went out of his way to offend home school parents in AR until he needed the home schooler parent’s vote.
That was Ronald Reagan who lost to Gerald Ford not the has beens that lost to John McCain. None of those candidates in 2008 could carry Reagan’s briefcase. Apples and oranges.
**son came home from Iraq.**
I might have written her OFF, if she HAD GONE, ANYWAY!!
DeMint/Pence 2012 (Pence is my Congressman as well ;)!
Exactly! Never could figure out some of these voters that only care about the Presidential election. Last election we had people that only marked the ballot for President and left everything else blank.
If that is true, isn't it bad? Palin's name was on the ballot in all fifty states and the result was a landslide victory for Obama; who got over 350 electoral votes.
Exactly.
Polling now for 2012 is stupid. Ask Rudy and Hillary how fast things change. We have two gubernatorial races in VA and NJ coming up in 6 weeks, both of which we should win. And next year we have the House and Senate races along with 38 gubernatorial races. And in the mean time we have to stop ObamaCare.
I don’t have a candidate in 2012 yet but I agree, I don’t really want to see a redo of the 2008 primaries.
Does this have to start now?
I’m hoping none of the leftovers from the last election even run.
Amen!
IMHO, Sara Palin and Jim DeMint would be an interesting ticket.
A few Republicans sought the presidential nomination, lost it, and won it, later. In 1980, George H.W. Bush lost the nomination, and, in ‘88, he won it. In 1988, Bob Dole sought the nomination, and, in ‘96, he won it. In 2000, John McCain lost the nomination, and, in ‘08, he won it. Huckabee or Romney will probably win the nomination, in 2012.
**(Pence is my Congressman as well ;)!**
I’m saving tomatoes for my CongressIDIOT!. Mine is the great Maurice Hinchey.. as we call COMRADE MO HIN CHEE.
The one who connected enough dots to Blame 9/11 on Sean Hannity.. live on his SHOW! I have to laugh, or I’d need a BHURKA to cover the Embarrassment!!!
**Last election we had people that only marked the ballot for President and left everything else blank.**
I’m one of those. I said before, the entire ticket was Interesting.. my congressman was opposed by CPUSA and 2 other parties.. so I had a choice a 100% Liberal or Stalin or MARX.They ran because my Congressman was too Conservative. SO he ran IMHO Unopposed.
Yes, are we talking straw poll or straw man?
I lived in Arkansas during Hucks Rule... state did have a few things I like.. but couldn’t vote as I moved just in time to register.. but the ballot had no PARTY designation on it.
But I had to SHOW a PICTURE ID... I don’t in NY.
