Founded in 1972 under the leadership of Father John Baumann, a Jesuit who learned community organizing in Chicago, PICO has become heavily invested in promoting the president's health-care reform. It has organized "Faith and Health Care Sundays" throughout the country. When the San Diego Organizing Project, a PICO affiliate, held an "action on health care" at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Pastor Bob Fambrini accused opponents of misleading the faithful on health care in the same way that they had supposedly "lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq."

To allay fears about the Democrats' health-care plan, PICO has teamed up with the liberal Christian group Sojourners and the George Soros-funded Catholics in Alliance for the Public Good to provide congregations with a "Health Care Tool Kit."

Many worry that ACORN will simply reorganize under a new name to get government money. Instead, another ACORN-like group seems ready to step in. "PICO"-lets keep an eye on them.

Dr. Jose Carrasco was the founding organizer of PACT in the 1970's. For the past 25 years, until his retirement last year, Dr. Carrasco has been a primary builder of the PICO National Network.

People Acting in Community Together (PACT) is a hard left group.

It would seem that way until PICO organizes some group (may be Catholic or Protestant or even both) in your town and suddenly you find civic priorities are being decided at protest meetings directed by PICO organizers. Having worked with PICO, I learned that what they are about is gaining power for PICO, and the people they “organize” are just pawns in their game.
