DURING last year's presidential campaign, when it seemed likely that Barack Obama would win, conservatives would joke, "One thing's sure: After January 20, dissent will no longer be the highest form of patriotism." We had heard that a lot during the George W. Bush years: "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism." Many on the left thought they were quoting Thomas Jefferson; actually, the words apparently come from Howard Zinn, the contemporary leftist historian. And it's a dumb thing to say: Certainly, dissent can be a form of patriotism. But the highest? Where does that put what Sergeant York and Audie Murphy did? For that matter, where does that leave George Washington?
Obama did indeed win, and "dissent" was, indeed, out: at least in the eyes of left-leaning opinion-makers. Obama was an inspirational president, governing in hard times, and we were all to rally around him: get with the program. Besides, he was historic, because black, and we all owed him our support, right? Not only would dissent not be patriotic; it would, very possibly, be racist--than which there is no worse thing to be in America.

If this is what they believe and if they keep it up, they may get what they want. I can’t believe that the right is looking to “raceism” to get what they want. It’s crazy as a fox and I believe they know it. If they don’t, they aren’t worth listening to.
Question...Can the Constitution survive??? If not I want to go with it. It would be the beginning of the new Dark Ages.
To think that when the Bummer was elected president that he didn’t become the second, blacker coming of Jesus instead... that someone in such a position would actually have to PUT UP with everything every previous president put up with... oh the hugh manatee!
Thanks for posting that dictionary picture for the word ‘clueless.’
“Let’s be very honest” is a liberal code-phrase for “I’m about to combine a lie and an insult so violently the moon will crack open, and whoever doesn’t support me in it is the enemy.”
Hahaha...I thought the quote needed a little “context” and she has about as little as anyone...
Janeane, you ignorant slut....
The highest form of patriotism, at least in THIS country, is giving your life in defense of the Constitution.
As to the Zero and racism...
A WHITE man would never have been elected with Zero’s sparse resume’ and shady associations - and if he DID, I wouldn’t like him either!
You see, I am an equal-opportunity redneck tea-bagging astroturfer.
“When you find a turtle on top of a fence post, you can be damn sure it didn’t get there on it’s own.”
?hen, you start to wonder who put it up there...and then WHY? The answer to the second question might go unanswered, but you dam well know that the answer to the third is never going to be about someone being benevolent.
“Thanks for posting that dictionary picture for the word clueless.”
Hope it wasn’t too close to dinner...
Fortunately, I haven't had lunch yet, though it's past 1.
Great article.
Indeed. But then your logic will be challenged by liberals who will declare that New Guinea tribesmen put turtles on fenceposts to honor their spirit, and so only White patriarchal arrogance is behind any suspicion of liberals who elevate turtles.
:)
She later said, "I'm a fan of disruptors, people who make change." And she said, "Let's not question each other's patriotism when we're having this very honest debate that our country expects and deserves."
“Indeed. But then your logic will be challenged by liberals...”
Well, they ARE “logically challenged”...
As 0 demonstrates everyday, in every way. Sadly.
I am a racist.
I am Joe the Plumber.
I am Sparticus.
I wonder if garofalo thought she was improving her looks with her choice of attire and the tattoos.
