Perdue orders Georgia government to cut all ties to ACORN
Albany Herald ^ | 09/17/2009 | Staff Reporter

ATLANTA - Gov. Sonny Perdue announced today that the state of Georgia is severing all ties with the liberal-leaning ACORN organization once its current contract expires in 13 days.

"In July," Perdue said in a statement released today by his office, "I directed my office to review all consulting contracts the state has with outside vendors to look for budget savings; that review did not identify the ACORN contract, because it does not involve state funds.

"The state of Georgia will not renew the contract, which expires in 13 days. Further, I have issued an executive order that prevents executive branch agencies from doing business with ACORN in the future and calls for a review of any existing contracts with ACORN."

In his order, Perdue cited considerations for severing ties with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now as being:

- Numerous investigations, indictments and prosecutions currently pending against ACORN and its staff throughout the nation;

- The Census Bureau's decision last Friday to sever ties with the group;

- The U.S. Senate's 83-7 vote Monday to cut off federal housing funding to ACORN;

- ACORN's internal investigation of the actions of its employees and agents.

Perdue gave state departments a deadline of Wednesday to provide his office with copies of all existing contracts with ACORN.

I don't understand that. The "ties" the state has are disbursing federal funds to ACORN? Or something else? Is he cutting ties to any vendor which does business with ACORN?

Excellent news.

Make sure your governator knows about this and demand similar action in your state and city.

I'm off to email my governor now!!
(Republican Bob Riley...btw, remember this name.)

I just sent this email to my governor:

Dear Governor Riley,

Please be so kind and follow the example of governor Perdue of Georgia and discontinue all funding and sever all ties to the organization known as ACORN. They have been shown to be a corrupt and criminal organization and do not deserve any taxpayers money.

Regards,

blam

Bump for Georgia.

Which other governors are standing up for Americans to do this?

And every accounting book should be gone over with a fine tooth comb. My guess is there has been lots of creative accounting going on for a LONG time.
