Czech Reax: 'Not Good News for Czech Freedom, Independence'
Weekly Standard ^ | 9/17/09 | Mike Goldfarb

Posted on 09/17/2009 3:23:44 PM PDT by pissant

Tom Donnelly goes big picture on the administration's missile defense capitulation at the new Center for Defense Studies blog(which is THE WEEKLY STANDARD blog's new favorite blog) under the apropos headline "A Bad Day for Freedom." He leads with a quote from former Czech PM Mirek Topolanek, this "is not good news for the Czech state, for Czech freedom and independence.” Donnelly goes on,

This is a neat summary not only of the Czech Republic’s strategic position, but also that of all of America’s allies, be they in eastern or western Europe, the greater Middle East, South or East Asia. Ultimately, this is not about the utility of missile defenses, relations with Russia or Iran, but about the United States and its role as the guarantor of international security.

Nearly every day brings a new and chilling wind from the White House for our allies. Today it is felt in central Europe. Meanwhile, an agonized Obama cannot decide whether he’s really committed to winning “the Good War” in Afghanistan; the administration is eternally debating “first principles” rather than effective ways and means. Meanwhile, Pakistan is accelerating its nuclear program against the day when Washington turns its head. Meanwhile, Iraqi factions are jockeying for advantage after the Americans go; they already understand they’ve been forgotten. Meanwhile, the Bush Administration’s “strategic partnership” with India is on hold. Meanwhile, a new Japanese government contemplates life alone in the shadow of rising China and a defiant North Korea. Meanwhile, Australia begins to “hedge” against the ebbing of American power in the Pacific. Meanwhile, the Pentagon conducts a defense review asking not how much is enough, but how little can we get by on.

The Obama Administration is proving to be not a collection of foxy tacticians, but a collective hedgehog that knows one big thing: political capital spent exercising American power abroad is capital lost in reshaping American society at home.

There's a lot more there, read the whole thing.

Obama wouldn't know a missile intercepter from a BB gun and he's the CIC? I don't think so.

Well, now we know why-—Zero had GE strike a business deal with Russia for technology—more important that GE get rewarded by ZERO, than CZECH freedom.

From the Heritage Foundation today:

UK Shadow Defense Secretary Liam Fox was speaking at Heritage today, assessing the huge challenges faced by Britain, the United States and the NATO alliance in Afghanistan, and underscoring why victory against the Taliban is vital to the security of the West. Afterwards he made time for the Foundry and reacted to the morning news that the White House was abandoning missile defense structures in the Czech Republic and Poland, two close allies in a strategic region of the world...

Today’s Morning Bell led with this missile defense story:

Liam Fox: "The Poles and the Czechs know what it means to live under the boot of Russian domination. The third-site issue is of huge symbolic importance to both nations, and if Moscow emerges the victor, with an effective veto over U.S. policy in Europe, it would represent a massive surrender of American strategic influence and a betrayal of two of its closest friends in the region."

Does anyone know how this will jive with L.O.S.T.?
Didn’t the Law of the Sea Treaty take away America’s sovereignty on the seas? Any missile defense shield delivered from ships wouldn’t be looked kindly upon by the United Nations, right?

Isn’t this a stealthy way of neutering us completely?

Yes - well - this one is extremely dangerous...but what should we expect from another Dem in the White House, especially a full blown communist?

Of course he will make decisions as he has re: Honduras, Cuba, Venezuela, China, and now Russia that favor the communists there. Of course he ushers in policies that favor the Jihadists. (Yes, we are still in Iraq and in Afghanistan - but we had 4 of our soldiers killed because of HIS ROE in Afghanistan and he is “putting off” a decision about sending more troops to Afghanistan).

Everything his administration and his fellow communists in Congress do is dangerous - either to our lives, our prosperity or our freedom....and to lives around the world!

Hey, Europe, welcome to the ultimate reality show. For far too long you relied upon the honor and integrity of the American promise to defend youm yet all the while you act out like a rebellious teenager and scream defiance. You knew, KNEW, that America would keep you safe.

Well, all that is by the boards now. You got your wish, our leaders are as squishy as yours. I feel your pain, though ... should you learn Russian or Arabic? Better bone up on both.

On a related note, Charles Krauthammer and Tammy Bruce both pointed out on FOX tonight that this is the 70th anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Poland.

Great timing, ZERO.

Is this guy just terminally stupid or naive or truly calculating? Inquiring minds want to know!
