Baucus bill booed at Obama health rally By Sam Youngman - 09/17/09 12:52 PM ET

President Obama's mention of Sen. Max Baucus's healthcare proposal drew boos Thursday at a healthcare rally at the University of Maryland.

By contrast, the left-leaning crowd cheered Obama when he endorseed a public health insurance option, which is considered a core provision for liberal lawmakers but is absent from Baucus's (D-Mont.) proposal.

The president’s speech in College Park, Md., was part of a return to campaign mode aimed at his attempts to drum up support for his embattled healthcare proposal.

Baucus, a centrist and chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, unveiled his bill Wednesday. He had been working behind the scenes for months with a group of three Republicans and two Democrats in an attempt to craft a bipartisan measure. But Republicans and liberal Democrats criticized the legislation upon its release, and the White House was largely noncommittal.

Obama did not endorse Baucus's bill at the rally. But he assailed critics of his broader goal, threatening those who mischaracterize his plans that he will "call them out."

"I've heard a lot of Republicans say they want to kill 'ObamaCare,'" Obama said. "Some even raise money off of it."

Well, there's almost nothing that can be added to the ObamaCare story that will change the basic facts:

1. It's dead.

2. Its Owners are angry.

The rest of the story will involve details that are important to Dems but not to us. We really don't need to know the precise hour the thing died, or the presumed cause of death. Nor do we need to know any more excruciating details about the horrors contained within its 1000 pages. It's dead. It will not come when called. If they feed it, it will not eat. It's dead. Soon it will smell even worse than it did when it was still alive. It will more likely be flushed down the toilet than be buried at Arlington.

Anything else I need mention?

Just like his approval rates.

The president’s speech in College Park, Md., was part of a return to continuing, never-ending, tedious, revolting, odious, industrial-strength barf-inducing, I-have-idea-what-else-to-do-except-flap-my-gums campaign mode aimed at his attempts to drum up support for his embattled healthcare proposal.

I even proof-read the thing.

RE :”reconciliation?’

That’s what progressives are calling for on MSNBC, but the moderates are warning against it. We can dream they try, in any case this gets ugly for democrats. Not a pretty ending for them.

Obama had a golden chance in Feb with the stimulus bill to be considered a great president and lure some moderate republicans to that bill, but the Pelosi stimulus he signed was a declaration of political war.

this event must have been stuffed with ACORN and union types because there’s no way UM students would know anything about Baucus vs any other bill.

I have to admit I have been perusing DU for the past few days. They are really disillusioned with the Baucus bill. It's great watching them lose the wind in their sails.

That said, what a crappy forum. I have never really read over there. They don't have 10 percent of the intellect we have over here. Barely is there a post more than a sentence or two.
