The student who alleged she was gang raped by five men inside a Hofstra University dormitory bathroom on Sunday has admitted to making the entire story up, the Nassau County District Attorney's office confirmed on Wednesday night.
Charges against the four men arrested have since been dropped.
Nassau County DA Kathleen Rice issued the following statement on Wednesday evening:
Moments ago my office moved to dismiss all charges against four men accused of committing a sexual assault on the campus of Hofstra University.
Late this evening, during the continuation of the Nassau County Police Department's investigation of the allegation, and under questioning by my office's chief trial attorney and chief sex crimes prosecutor, the alleged victim of the sexual assault admitted that the encounter that took place early Sunday morning was consensual.
Following the interview, my office moved quickly to appear before a night court judge to dismiss all charges and request that the judge order the individuals' immediate release.

I also note the last part of the article, reproduced below. The "very difficult" time is only due to one person and one person only, the false accuser. Send her to jail.

We have been notified by the Nassau County District Attorney's Office that the young woman involved in the alleged rape incident has recanted her claims against the five young men.
This week has been a very difficult one for our entire community, and we will need time to heal and understand the events of the last few days. As additional information becomes available we will post it on the University home page. '
Well, since she is now a criminal, we are entitled to know her identity, aren’t we?
More reason I’m better off single.
If she invented the story to cover her own sleazy behavior she needs to be hammered. Having said that, her sudden reversal almost makes me wonder if she didn’t get a brief introduction to the perils of snitching in the past few days.
The feminists would get up in arms if women making false accusations of rape were punished for it.
Darn right she should go to prison for this. I’m sick and tired of hearing women accusing people of things and just walking away unscathed.
They should all sue her as well.
Well I hope their community has some sort of punishment for those among them that cast false charges. This would only be fair thing for the community. My guess nothing will happen. All men are evil.

I hate it when this happens. They trivialize real rape victims. Sick.
Poor Jane Velez-Mitchell on HLN is going to have to recant her rant about this case. According to Velez-Mitchell, there's a war against women in America, and every man is a potential rapist/woman murderer. She's fed up and she's not going to take it anymore.
Unfortunately, she doesn't seem to pay sufficient attention to the stories that her program reports on. A woman appears to have murdered and raped poor little 8-year-old Sandra Kantu, stuffed her body into a suitcase and dumped it in an irrigation ditch. Another woman—Phillip Garrido's wife, Nancy—appears to have been a willing participant in the kidnapping and 18-year-long imprisonment and sexual abuse of Jaycee Lee Dugard. Another woman, Misty Crosslin, appears to have had something to do with the disappearance of her boyfriend's daughter, Hayleigh Cummings, from a trailer in Florida. And let us not forget one of the most repulsive cases: Casey Anthony, who appears to have duct-taped shut the mouth of her young daughter Cayley, chloroformed her to death, wrapped her body in trash bags and dumped it in the woods near her home.
Wake up, Jane.
What does that have to do with anything? These men were probably single?

Maybe. It might discourage false accusations. It might also discourage recantations.

The races are reversed in this case.
