Essay: Chop and Crop (Newsweek butchers Cheney photo)
The New York Times ^ | David Hume Kennerly

Posted on 09/17/2009 6:44:13 AM PDT by Karma Police

The Sept. 14th Newsweek cover line — “Is Your Baby Racist?” — should have included a sub-head, “Is Dick Cheney a Butcher?”

Featured inside the magazine was a full-page, stand-alone picture of former Vice President Dick Cheney, knife in hand, leaning over a bloody carving board. Newsweek used it to illustrate a quote that he made about C.I.A. interrogators. By linking that photo with Mr. Cheney’s comment and giving it such prominence, they implied something sinister, macabre, or even evil was going on there.

I think I saw a copy of Newsweek on a news stand once.

I would be upset if they did this with my photo also.

Apparently Cheney let the presstitute photog into his house; he has no one to blame but himself. I admire Cheney, but after remaining largely aloof and distanced from the press during eight years as VP, why in the world would he allow a Newsweek photographer into his home at dinner time?!?!?

Surely he must know better than that.

The terrible emotional needs of the left will carry this to violence. A pathology exists in some people that demands a Gotterdamerung.

This is a good example of the VP “taking one for the team”. We have the before and after photos, which document one more example in the forty-five year story of the editorial malfeasance of this rag. From innocent photo to propaganda; the story continues, until newsweek evaporates into thin air.

The photographer, David Hume Kennerly, is a staff photographer for Getty Images, not Newsweek. If you read the article you would see the photographer’s outrage at what Newsweek did with his photo. On a side note, Kennerly won the Pulitzer Prize for his work covering the Vietnam War in 1972.
