The data show government transfers and rebates have not increased consumption at all.
Is the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 working? At the time of the act's passage last February, this question was hotly debated. Administration economists cited Keynesian models that predicted that the $787 billion stimulus package would increase GDP by enough to create 3.6 million jobs. Our own research showed that more modern macroeconomic models predicted only one-sixth of that GDP impact. Estimates by economist Robert Barro of Harvard predicted the impact would not be significantly different from zero.

And I could have told you that pigs do not, indeed, fly!
What rebates? Ohhh, that $8 a week for people who are still lucky enough to have a job get (not) taken out of their paycheck?
What did Obama say about the economy? "Give it to me"?
Indeed...

Gracias!
I just had to do that. LOL.
Thanks, Holy O. Your financial wizardry is about as effective as your racial healing skills.
LOL
I could have told you that and it would have only cost you $20, not 787 billion plus.
surprised......not....
We need to get this whole stimulus disaster repealed before they put the bulk of it on my childrens involuntary charge card.
It was a pork filled crapfest that to pay off those who supported O.
It is already on your children’s charge card. They have spent hundreds of billions of dollars with not a lot to show. And they are in the process of raising our taxes.
hmmmm ... wonder how obami and f-troup is going to spin this ... are they gonna continue to be cowards they have shown us they are or call them LIARS ... I say show me the GDP.
Did someone say “Hush Fund”. Poor people dont give other poor people jobs, so why give it to those who need it.
How clued these geniuses at the WSJ in?
Here's an example of why.
Over 30 million from the Porkulus Bill went to build a new bridge over a highway which primary purpose is to connect two parts of the Redmond, WA Microsoft Campus. At the same time, Microsoft layed off over 5 thousand employees this year claiming it was needed during the credit crisis. They are still making billions in profit per quarter.
To make matters worse, there are already 2 of the same highway overpasses connecting these two parts of the campus within a couple blocks of each other and the new one under construction that have 4 lanes for traffic, sidewalks for bikes & pedestrians, and onramp/offramps to get on the highway.
