Beginning today, September 16th, 2009, a new movement is focusing on the lobby of our State Representitives and Senators to sign a "Pledge of Support" of the 10th Amendment and States Rights in Missouri.
A group of close to 50 Missouri citizens from all areas of the State converged upon the State Capital building to personally meet with our elected officials. Following a meeting of participants that outlined the particular reasons why States Rights can and will be the last stand against Federal Tyranny, we hand delivered the pledge sheets to members from each of our congressional districts. We relayed our concerns about an ever imposing Federal Government usurping the rights of Missouri citizens in blatant defiance of the Constitution.
The Capital is buzzing with legislators attending the annual "veto override" session so this was an opportunity to gain momentum towards next January's legislative session. Last legislative session, the Missouri House approved a 10th Amendment Resolution, but that Resolution was not taken up by the Senate. Even though a Resolution is non-binding, we hope to build momentum with actual legislation that blocks or nullifys any federal government action detrimental to the freedom of Missourians.
Last year alone, Missouri Legislators turned down $133 Million in federal stimulus money when the feds tried to strong arm them into spending the money according to their wishes. Also Missouri Legislators turned down Federal funds tied into the Primary Seat Belt Law that would have allowed law enforcement to pull over drivers solely for seat belt checks. The Missouri Legislature understood the federal violations of personal liberty and rejected the coercement to receive funds.
Missouri is the first State to pursue the distribution of the 10th Amendment Pledge Forms. Several other states are watching our project with great interest. Overall we had great success with several dozen pledge forms signed and delivered back to the Project.

You might also ask your state Representative to support this proposal.
One thing at a time. We need to get the 10th working for us again first.
The Federalist Papers provide the valuable insight about the creation of the Constitution. That will be reserved for the Pollys who ride the fence on sovereignty.

Good for Missouri!
We’re going to bring this up at the Fenton town hall meeting on 21 September. Mayor Meramek, Representative Todd Akin, Senator Kitt Bond, and 2 representatives from the “Show Me Institute” will be there to discuss Health Care, Cap and Trade, and Tax issues. We’re going to ask Senator Bond when he will sign on to S-604 to Audit The Federal Reserve

Indeed! One has to wonder if within the bowels of many State Houses there aren't quiet discussions about not just the direction, but the speed with which odinga is trying to implement his brand of tyranny. The People's voices has been raised over and over again with the "country club" set in DC without so much as tip of the hat acknowledging our existence. I'm certain the massive turnout on 9/12 shocked many of the denizens in the halls of power, maybe to the point of giving them pause, if not concern.
It may or may not be enough to right the ship of state so the several States FINALLY tiptoeing into the battle to defend its own sovereignty and the sovereignty of its citizens against a feral government is a huge plus. We're talking govt vs govt; one with limited and defined powers, the other with numerous and indefinite powers which coincidentally is the one closest to The People. On its face, the States would seemingly have the upper hand, but by way of intimidation and outright extortion and bribery, the federales have won the day again and again. I don't think we can do it without The States joining the fray and getting out in front of this parade on our behalf.
One thing that jumped out at me from the article was a refutation of one of the points of naysayers -
they all say that when it comes to the feds cutting off funds when a state declares sovereignty, the state will buckle.
Well, Mo refused the $133 billion because of the fed strings. This sets a precedent for refusing the strings even when the threat of withdrawal of funds is imminent.
Well FWIW, $133 billion might have been hard to say no to! We're almost talking real money here! ;^)
But point taken. There were several other States that took a pass on SOME of the federales funny money. Alaska and Texas are a couple that I remember but I think there were several others. Memory ain't what it used to be...
