News conference starts any minute.
Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus flies solo in proposing a $856 billion, 10-year health care reform plan minus the government-run option will it open the door to compromise.

can someone post updates for cube bound?
The democrats have total control of the House and Senate and are having trouble getting even their representatives to "compromise" and support any ObamaCare monstrosity (which also says a lot), much less trying to pass the responsibilty for it off to a few defecting RINOs.
God grant that we can return honest, patriotic statesmen and women to office soon...like in 2010.

The absence of any Republican support makes it hard for Baucus to justify this as a compromise, and his compromises make it hard for the Democrats on the committee to support his bill. Look for the public option to return.
.

.
Since this will add more than a dime to the budget deficit, Obama needs to speak out against it.
He’s spinning this bill as something that will help the average working American, but this bill won’t help the average person. His speech is a load of BS. This bill uses a collectivist approach that forces all young people and healthy responsible people into a system where they’ll have to pay for relatively expensive health insurance, to subsidize the poor, illegal immigrants, and people with pre-existing conditions. It’s galloping socialism...European style. Welcome to Sweden...and get ready for much higher taxes and inflation to pay for all of this, if it passes in congress.
Gee, I can’t imagine why no one supports his “plan”. A $3800.00 penalty seems like such a winner.
Baucus can’t speak worth a hoot. He is studdering and stammering which means he as no faith in his bill. He is standing by himself.
LIE ALERT —
Baucus says that nobody will have to change his/her choice of coverage...
By some estimates I’ve seen, fully 1/3 of the ‘45m uninsured’ have no insurance, by their own choice... The Baucus Bill MANDATES that EVERYBODY purchase health insurance,
Therefore, these people will HAVE TO CHANGE his/her (non) choice....
Just sayin’....
I agree with LIE ALERT. He is VERY uncomfortable with what he is saying.
I think this guy drew the short straw and had to deliver this crapola in a press conference.
I think he has a medical condition and he knows his bill won’t cover it!
He says that this is a “game changer” to healthcare ... in other word tax the hell out of the middle-class.
Now we have a “moral obligation to pass this healthcare THIS YEAR” ... wassup with this. Moral Obligations do not come with timetables in my book ... and you?
I think they need it to pass this year because Obama’s polls will be below 40% approval.
For the biggest piece of legislation since the depression, they only spent 100 hours discussing this ... that is 2.5 weeks ...
That means ignoring the establishment Republican candidates and gravitating around a grass roots Republican candidate.
For instance, in Colorado, the establishment is trying to push out other Republicans in favor of McCain's Colorado campaign chair - Jane Norton. Norton who had refused three previous calls to run as governor or senate finally agreed when McCain called her to run, now. Coincidently, a press release mysteriously surfaced saying that best funded Republican opponent, Ken Buck, had ended his campaign to make room for Norton.
Ken Buck, DA from Weld county seems to have the early advantage amongst his grass roots opponents, but some are giving Luke Korkowski a longer look. Korkowski, owns a transactional law practice in Crested Butte, Colorado seems to be the only ideological rival to Buck.
Ryan Frazier an Aurora, Colorado city councilman has his allies and his critics. He stood alongside Denver's liberal Mayor Hickinlooper in support of Referendum I, allowing domestic partnerships. When that failed statewide, he tried to implement it in Aurora. Any hint of "moderate" is a deal killer for me.
That leaves, Ken Buck and Luke Korkowski, with Buck having a money advantage and some political experience and momentum.
