Making ends meet is getting harder, even for those earning over six figures a year, according to a new survey released by employment Web site CareerBuilder.com.

“Many more people are living paycheck to paycheck compared to last year," says Richard Castellini, chief marketing officer at CareerBuilder.com. "What you’re seeing is that the problem is moving into higher income levels.”

Thirty percent of workers with salaries of $100,000 or more said they are living paycheck to paycheck, up from 21 percent last year, according to the survey of 4,400 workers nationwide.

I thought previous reports said people were paying down debt and paying with cash more often?

How is this possible? It says they are still earning over $100,000. Many things have actually gotten cheaper as people liquidate assets. If you still have a good paying job, now is a great time until your taxes go up.

I don't see how they are suddenly living paycheck to paycheck.

It’s the NeoCom way. Rich this, poor this, and it’s all about fairness and redistributing the wealth, except everyone gets poorer in the process. Redistribution of wealth means destruction of wealth, and no one gets it, except for the people doing the redistributing. How many times does the world have to experience this scam before people wise up to it?

what does living paycheck to paycheck mean? Throughout human history it was perfectly normal to scrape by - only we Americans with our free market and individual liberty brought forth the idea of a high standard of living for all who put forth their best effort and the left in America and everywhere else has always hated that because independent people do no rely on govt largesse.

It’s always been the left who opposes individiual liberty and private wealth.

Besides, if your living paycheck to paycheck please remember that you are still living and still receiving a paycheck so be thankful for what you have! Be thankful for the good things in life and if you’re in America there’s not much to be angry about - except for the whole Obama thing and his deceitful desires to turn us into Cuba.

Even upper-income folks are continuing to live beyond their means. No sympathy from me. I'm an E-5 in the military (making significantly less than $100k/yr) and my wife is a stay-at-home mom and we still manage to save money each month. And we're not living in the stone age either.

Why can't these folks?

Living paycheck to paycheck means you are in major trouble if you lose your job.

It means you are only paying minimum on your credit card debt.

It means you have no savings.

It means if you lose your income, you will have a very rapid decline in your standard of living.

I have always said it is easier to go from being poor to rich then it is to go the other way.

Good post. The statistics presented in this article are meaningless unless you look at them in the proper context.

I think a disproportionately large percentage of people who earn six-figure incomes live in large metro areas where the cost of living is very high. So they don't necessary "have more" at the end of the day than anyone else, unless they are prudent and careful with their money.

You would be surprised how expensive it can be.

Since taxes are so high in this bracket, I move all I can into my 401k plan. Not doing so just makes my taxes higher.

We are also thinking about buying another house for the same reason.

1. Good job

2. Not really an apples to apples comparison. Your pay will never shrink, you and your family get free health care, you get free clothing, you get free or near free chow (on post), your get BAH for housing or live free on post, you pay nothing for your pension, you or your family can attend college for free (new GI Bill), etc.

3. Your take home is nearly all disposable income (leaving alot for savings) while others (even earning $100,000) have fixed costs and other costs that you do not deal with.

An entry level home in Silicon Valley with 1200sqft starts at $600k. $100/year won’t even qualify without a sizable downpayment.

I don't see how they are suddenly living paycheck to paycheck.

Because they cannot finance their lifestyles any longer with home equity loans?

About the only thing right in this statement is that his pay will never shrink.
