45% Of Doctors Would Consider Quitting If Congress Passes Health Care Overhaul
Investor's Business Daily ^ | 9/15/09 | Terry Jones

Posted on 09/16/2009 7:25:07 AM PDT by harpu

Two of every three practicing physicians oppose the medical overhaul plan under consideration in Washington, and hundreds of thousands would think about shutting down their practices or retiring early if it were adopted...

The poll contradicts the claims of not only the White House, but also doctors' own lobby — the powerful American Medical Association — both of which suggest the medical profession is behind the proposed overhaul.

It also calls into question whether an overhaul is even doable; 72% of the doctors polled disagree with the administration's claim that the government can cover 47 million more people with better-quality care at lower cost.

The IBD/TIPP Poll was conducted by mail the past two weeks, with 1,376 practicing physicians chosen randomly throughout the country taking part. Responses are still coming in, and doctors' positions on related topics — including the impact of an overhaul on senior care, medical school applications and drug development — will be covered later in this series.

• Two-thirds, or 65%, of doctors say they oppose the proposed government expansion plan. This contradicts the administration's claims that doctors are part of an "unprecedented coalition" supporting a medical overhaul.

It also differs with findings of a poll released Monday by National Public Radio that suggests a "majority of physicians want public and private insurance options," and clashes with media reports such as Tuesday's front-page story in the Los Angeles Times with the headline "Doctors Go For Obama's Reform."

-snip-

• Four of nine doctors, or 45%, said they "would consider leaving their practice or taking an early retirement" if Congress passes the plan the Democratic majority and White House have in mind.

More than 800,000 doctors were practicing in 2006, the government says. Projecting the poll's finding onto that population, 360,000 doctors would consider quitting.

Yep. That's what happens.

Then the country is forced to bring graduates from the Universities of Mombassa, Calcutta, Abuja, Ogbunka, and Etc

and then they start doing things like this:

The government worker who takes your Driver’s lincense picture at the DMV will be given a promotion and become your Doctor.

(BTW WHY IS NOBODY COVERING THE FACT THAT IN EUROPEAN SOCIALIZED MEDICINE BRIBERY OF THE DOCTOR IS PART OF THE SYSTEM? if you don’t “tip” the doctor you wait in line to die.)

But Obama said that if you like your current doctor, you'll be able to keep him.

Don't you believe him?!

If Obama raises taxes on the rich, the same thing will happen.

They will retire early or reduce their work load just like the doctors. It is a change you can count on.

“Yet the takeover plan is endorsed by the AMA”

Less than 17% of doctors in this country belong to the AMA. It isn’t NEARLY repesentative of physicians in this country.

(s)But as government doctors they would have “sovereign immunity” for all the mistakes they bury. See Obamacare DOES include tort reform. You can kill the patients and the government does not care.(/s)

Doctors are invested in insurance companies.

If insurance is mandatory then they will make money that way.

of course the AMA is not mandatory for doctors the way the ABA is not mandatory for lawyers.

"Doctors are invested in insurance companies."

The cost of overhead just to deal with the insurance companies (and with Medicare...) is not an investment.

If doctoring becomes just another relatively modestly compensated job, the medical profession will be filled with only modestly capable people.

This is what I try and tell people- being a doctor will be just another government job- probably unionized, too. But here’s the kicker, that’s exactly what the government WANTS. They don’t care if half the doctors quit over this. In fact, if they are the best and brightest, they WANT them to quit so they can start replacing them with their brain-washed government toadie minions in white coats. Just like any takeover- get rid of those most apt and able to oppose or resist you and replace them with ‘your’ people.

this also serves a social purpose in going towards socialism. there are certain professions that have always been considered ‘elite’ and that attract the best and brightest. Can’t have that under socialism. Every profession will soon be just another job where no one can set themselves apart by talent or ambition.

This doesn’t just apply to doctors. I haven’t met any dental assistants, CNAs or nurses who like this either. If ObamaCare passes I won’t work in the medical field again. I’m a CNA, by the way. I’ll go back to retail. My job is hard enough with all the suffering I do see; I can’t deal with more because someone was denied because they were deemed useless to society.

I’m also against the insurance mandate and rumor has it (among medical professionals) that some of the bills require unionization of medical professionals, something most of us aren’t up for either.

Yeah, that’s what we need — yet more “doctors” who can barely speak English, ignore what patients have to say, and spend the entire appointment time staring at a computer. Yep.. that’s what we need!

Well, it's not as if the people in 3rd world countries really need doctors. </sarcasm>

Actually, you have a point. Between “fringy” law schools and affirmative action at good law schools, there are some incompetent lawyers. But, unless you are a Defendant in a capital case, a schlocky lawyer won’t kill you.

I can’t speak specifically to advanced medical degrees. But, generally, what passes for a “doctorate” in most of third world is about at the level of an associate’s degree here.
