Two of every three practicing physicians oppose the medical overhaul plan under consideration in Washington, and hundreds of thousands would think about shutting down their practices or retiring early if it were adopted...
The poll contradicts the claims of not only the White House, but also doctors' own lobby the powerful American Medical Association both of which suggest the medical profession is behind the proposed overhaul.
It also calls into question whether an overhaul is even doable; 72% of the doctors polled disagree with the administration's claim that the government can cover 47 million more people with better-quality care at lower cost.
The IBD/TIPP Poll was conducted by mail the past two weeks, with 1,376 practicing physicians chosen randomly throughout the country taking part. Responses are still coming in, and doctors' positions on related topics including the impact of an overhaul on senior care, medical school applications and drug development will be covered later in this series.
Two-thirds, or 65%, of doctors say they oppose the proposed government expansion plan. This contradicts the administration's claims that doctors are part of an "unprecedented coalition" supporting a medical overhaul.
It also differs with findings of a poll released Monday by National Public Radio that suggests a "majority of physicians want public and private insurance options," and clashes with media reports such as Tuesday's front-page story in the Los Angeles Times with the headline "Doctors Go For Obama's Reform."

Four of nine doctors, or 45%, said they "would consider leaving their practice or taking an early retirement" if Congress passes the plan the Democratic majority and White House have in mind.
More than 800,000 doctors were practicing in 2006, the government says. Projecting the poll's finding onto that population, 360,000 doctors would consider quitting.

There are three components desired in healthcare reform:
1- High quality of care.
2- Universal and unconditional availability.
3- Reduced cost.
You can pick any two from the list, but you can't have all three.
bttt
Blue Cardiologists of Culpeper, Virginia have already stated that they will most likely go out of business if the “plan” passes in its current state. Earlier this week, the doctor who pwns/runs the outfit went to capitol hill to tesify against the “reform bill”.
The next hearest cardiology specialists are about 40 miles away.
~~They know ...PING!
“They have figured out their incomes are going to be capped.”
Their incomes will be reduced!
Thanks for posting.

The fact that doctors stand to make a lot of money is what draws a continual supply of the best and the brightest to the practice of medicine, and insures that medical schools can be very selective about whom they admit.
If doctoring becomes just another relatively modestly compensated job, the medical profession will be filled with only modestly capable people.
Less doctors and more patients spells rationing and a collapse of our medical system.
WAKE UP AMERICA!!
Jimmy Carter suspects racism is what is driving this.
Directive 10-289 (Atlas Shrugged):
Point Two: All industrial, commercial, manufacturing, and business establishments of any nature whatsoever shall henceforth remain in operation, and the owners of such establishments shall not quit, nor leave, nor retire, nor close, sell or transfer their business, under penalty of the nationalization of their establishment and of any or all their property.
Are you saying that 55% of the doctors in The United States of Obama are black?
Yeah. Tort reform is so far off the table even a FReeper with a telescope can't find it.
Income cap = work cap.
When my mom started practicing, her malpractice insurance was 500 per year. She retired a few years early when it went to 25,000 per year.
A college friend of mine has 1 kid in Harvard and a set of twins who will probably go there too. She is considering quitting to get her income below 60,000 a year which is where Harvard pays 100% because at her current income level, it would cost her 160,000 a year for her 3 kids when she only makes 200,000 pre tax.
Yes I believe a whole lot of doctors are going to retire early or switch careers if their pay gets reduced.
My oncologist said that if Obamacare is instituted, he’ll close up shop and go fishing.
Thanks a lot commie rat bastards for nothing. I have spent considerable time & effort building a relationship with the only people I could turn to.
Asshats....stay away from my business.
Government and lawyers need to get the hell out of healthcare and stay the hell out - THEY ARE THE PROBLEM.
And people in Washington scratch their heads and wonder why we’re upset.
Perhaps we do need to go through another upheaval and clean out the garbage.
This needs to go viral—now. This kind of stat is basic enough for even the most brain-dead liberal to understand.
