Lott was among a group of students who gathered around to watch the fight, and were seen laughing. He says that's why he was one of three witnesses to the fight that were suspended in addition to the attackers.
Asked why he laughed, he had this response, "Every kid laughs in a high school will laugh. If you see a fight every kid will laugh. Any fight you see we always laugh, it's like adrenaline we just laugh."
Lott's mother, Shenico Greer, says she was appalled by the video, and has already given her son a talking to about laughing at the fight, but she doesn't think his actions merit a five day suspension from school, "He was suspended, according to the principal, for laughing, but clearly everybody saw the video. Everybody on that bus mostly was laughing and standing up."
She says she fully supports expulsion of the two students who started the fight, something she says she's told by school officials is happening.
There were suggestions by a Belleville Police Captain that there was a racial undertone to the fight between the white victim and two African-American attackers. But Lott says that's not the case, "I don't think it's like that, not at all," he contends. "I 'm cool with a lot of white people at this school and I'm black. I don't think it's nothing like that."

I watched that video a few times. It almost looks fake like WWF stuff.
If a near all bus of white kids ended up beating up the loan black kid you’d hear racism, not a taking a seat issue.
You are correct. If the situation was reversed you would see nothing but wall to wall coverage by the state run media.

For these thug types, a 5 Day suspension from school = encouragement to beat up a few more white kids.

Without knowing what the subculture at the school was like, this is premature. Laughing might be a way of saying “don’t haul ME into this fight.”
Still don’t think he would have gotten a beat-down. This was about a white kid who had the nerve to sit down in a seat when the bus driver told everyone to be seated - after several black students refused to allow him to sit down with them.
The guy standing up laughing and taking pics with his cell phone of the kid’s bloody face, hope he was one the ones suspended too. I wanted to reach through the screen and give them all a whuppin’. And I would have felt the same way had it been a bunch of white kids beating on one lone black kid with no one stepping in to help. Wondering if the bus driver did anything....?
5 days is nothing.

Most will consider it a 5 day vacation. The parents, if they work, will feel mildly un-at-ease all day, wondering what the kids are up to, unattended.
I think the bus driver should be fired.
And the school district should give that boy a reserved seat in the front of the bus every day as a little lesson to the rest of the kids on that bus.
The students who sat there passively and did nothing need to be made to understand that they are complicit in the violence. Many Americans seem to have lost the will to confront violence. Whatever happened to “right makes might” ?
That is exactly what needs to happen--tomorrow.
