WASHINGTON (CNN) A former aide to George W. Bush and Sarah Palin is dismissing a claim by onetime Bush speechwriter Matt Latimer that the former president was clueless about Palin when she was tapped as John McCain's running mate last August. Latimer writes in a new book scheduled for release in October that Bush wasn't even aware of Palin when she was picked. "'What is she, the governor of Guam?'" Bush reportedly asked. Latimer also writes that Bush told aides that the then-Alaska governor was "not even remotely prepared" for the national stage. But Jason Recher, who served as special assistant to President Bush and as a traveling aide to Palin during the campaign, said the former President was well aware of Palin especially since the two met in person in Alaska just three weeks before Palin was added to the Republican ticket.

Another bonehead political tell-all where the publisher encouraged the author to concoct some “bomb shell” that will get lots of publicity and sell lots of books, just like Tom Ridge’s moronic “They wanted to raise the terror alert level!” b.s. Of course the publisher I’m sure encouraged Lattimer to try to make the bomb shell one that takes out Sarah Palin in the process to serve the Democrats’s anti-Palin pathology.
Conservatives? ...No
RINOs? .....a few
Liberals? .....Just the pundits
Democrats .....Heck No.
Yeah I knew something was off about this book. President Bush is a smart guy, I find it VERY hard to believe that he did not know who she was and did not know which state she was Governor of. This is just the usual Alinsky rules to shift the focus away from Obama’s failed Presidency and put the focus on the Republicans
Time to eat crow!
Wow the two met.
He is so lucky!
Dubya's alleged quotes regarding Biden & ZerØ will be discredited &/or ignored.
His alleged quotes regarding Palin will become Gospel.
Frankly, I think he’s lying. Bush has refrained from saying anything negative about Sarah, unlike almost every other prominent Republican. And it’s not his style. He doesn’t go around belittling people, not even enemies who deserve it.
"Latimer writes in a new book scheduled for release in October that Bush wasn't even aware of Palin when she was picked."
"'What is she, the governor of Guam?'" Bush reportedly asked. Latimer also writes that Bush told aides that the then-Alaska governor was "not even remotely prepared" for the national stage."
This from a guy who didn't know who the Governor of Alaska was and what she represented to real conservatives even then, on the day that McCain chose here for the VP spot. Unlike Bush (if the story is true) I jumped up and down and yelled YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS when the selection of Sarah Palin was announced. I'm sure that a lot of Freepers were right there with me.
So 1 chance in 10 that the story is true. If it's true then 10 chances in 10 that Bush was a dope, at least on the subject of Sarah Palin.
Let’s see the libel suits.
Were they saying that Bush didn't know, or that he was putting her down by pretending not to have heard of her?
“not even remotely prepared” for the national stage...
And has solid conservative values.
That makes her perfect in my book.
I had heard of her as an extreme darkhorse just before, and this from a guy who followed the election professionally for various radio networks. I didn’t even know how attractive she was until McCain picked her. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Bush had never heard of her, or at least didn’t remember her.
I predict that the book at its highest will be no. 45,763 on Amazon and relegated to the $1.99 table at Wal-Mart within three weeks of its release.
I think I became aware of Sarah Palin about April 2008, on Free Republic....

OK, so is this a denial of the entire statement, or just the part where Lattimer claimed Bush didn’t KNOW who Palin was?
Hopefully, we’ll get answers to what parts of the book Bush is disagreeing with soon.
The statement he allegedly made doesn’t belittle her. He allegedly said she wasn’t on the national stage yet, and was “unprepared” for what was coming. I don’t think anybody who first steps out into the national spotlight is really “prepared” for what the media onslaught can do to you.
And certainly what happened to Palin those first few days, nobody was prepared for. It was so outrageous.
During a stopover in Fairbanks on the way to the Beijing Olympics last August, Recher said Bush met with Palin and even made a knowing reference to her rising reputation in the Republican Party.
"The president was fully aware of who Sarah Palin was," Recher told CNN. "Even so much that when he greeted the governor and Todd in Fairbanks during a re-fueling stop on the way to the Beijing Olympics, he threw open his arms and said "Madam Vice President!'"
"He was very aware of her rising-star status and who she was and everything about her, even down to the fact that she recently had given birth to Trig," Recher said.
