Make 'em Feel the Heat   [Iain Murray]

President Reagan said, "When you can't make them see the light, make them feel the heat." Washington is now completely in the dark — so a new group called Freedom Action is here to help you put the heat on.  Believing in nothing more than individual rights, free markets and limited government, Freedom Action is a new grassroots activist social network aimed at putting government back inside its constitutional limits.

Every group has to start somewhere, and Freedom Action's first campaign is about Carbongate — the EPA's internal suppression of a scientific assessment skeptical of global-warming alarmism. It hopes that citizen action in the form of e-mails and other communications telling EPA to put its regulatory plans on hold until it clears up this scandal will start the process of bringing this bloated regulatory behemoth back under control. If you agree, head over there and sign up. If you're interested in the principles of the organization, get involved in the social network and contribute blogs, comments, jokes, and videos. In the spirit of the Tea Parties, the group will take its future direction from its members, as long as it is in keeping with the founding principles, so this is a chance to get your voice heard, and have the corridors of power tremble a little more at the force of the vox pop.

Does anyone know anything about this group? Is it something FR wants to get behind?

I gave them my favorite de.licio.us tag: politics. I’ll follow them for awhile and see how they do.

Now all we need is a group to promote border security to our congress.

Sheesh! what a mess they’ve made of the US government!

I met Iain Murray in DC last Friday. He spoke at the CEI/Ayn Rand Tea Party Workshop. He referred to himself as a "refugee from socialism" having been born in England. Really good guy. He is Director of Projects and Analysis and Senior Fellow in Energy, Science and Technology at the Competitive Enterprise Institute.

That’s interesting. What does he think of the Obama Administration?

What does he think of the Obama Administration?

I'm left with the impression that he's inclined to look upon it with some disfavor.

His topic as the first speaker at the seminar on Friday was a historical perspective in some depth of revolts against the government in England, The Peasant's Revolt (1381), Cade's Rebellion (1450, Pilgrimage of Grace (1585), The English Civil War (~1650), The Glorious Revolution (1689), etc., all of which involved blood shed ... with some of Milton's Areopagitica and John Locke philosophy ...

I don’t know anything about them, but that Reagan quote was my tagline for a while. ha.
