Former president George W. Bush had a flair for insulting the people fighting to be his successor, former speechwriter Matt Latimer reveals in the October issue of GQ. The piece, an excerpt from Latimer's forthcoming book, "Speech Less: Tales of a White House Survivor," gives a candid look at the final days of the Bush presidency. In several passages, Bush comments on the candidates then vying for the White House:
The president, like me, didn't seem to be in love with any of the available options. He always believed Hillary Clinton would be the Democratic nominee. "Wait till her fat keister is sitting at this desk," he once said (except he didn't say "keister"). He didn't think much of Barack Obama. After one of Obama's blistering speeches against the administration, the president had a very human reaction: He was ticked off. He came in one day to rehearse a speech, fuming. "This is a dangerous world," he said for no apparent reason, "and this cat isn't remotely qualified to handle it. This guy has no clue, I promise you." He wound himself up even more. "You think I wasn't qualified?" he said to no one in particular. "I was qualified."

Damn straight.
This isn't an "insult". It is an inconvenient truth.

We all know how well the Bush presidency worked out.
Charlie Gibson will, no doubt, know about *this.*
Would you hire Barack Obama as your contractor to build your house, and trust him to handle all of the paperwork, screening and hiring the labor, showing up on site to inspect the work, and bring it all in at or under budget?
I think this looks like it will be a real interesting book! Looking forward to it!
This story has a whiff about it.
“Wait till her fat keister is sitting at this desk,”
...now THAT’S funny!
GWB sure had a weak spot for disloyal, back-stabbing big mouths, didn’t he?
The less said the better, but you just can't get good help these days. Everybody wants to hit the best-seller lottery.
I wouldn’t trust Zero to walk my dog.
And she did GREAT...at the GOP convention, at the numerous rallies, and at the debate with Biden. No wonder Bush/Romney hacks tried to sink her from behind.
I say BS. If Bush didn’t fight back in public, what makes you think he would say these things in private? More gossip-mongering just to make Bush look bad.
If its “Ode de Ass” I’m getting the same whiff here in Wisconsin...
I am beginning to wonder how much of this is actually Matt Latimer wanting to sell books.
In fact, I'm still convinced if it weren't for a certain president twisting a certain nominees arm to support a certain bailout of a certain investment firm, 0bozo would not be president.
I'm not sure my blood pressure can handle it in one sitting.
I love how Bush said he "redefined the Republican Party."
Thanks Mr. President. The minority party of neutered congresscritters salutes you.
Actually, Bush’s comments sound just like those on FR.
We didn’t like Hillary or Obama or McCain, either.
And while many of us, myself included, love Sarah Palin, Bush called it right: they ate her alive. I think she’ll rebound, certainly hope so, but he knew, probably from experience, what an ordeal she was stepping into.
Interesting.
Look bad? All the quotes I've seen so far, I think he's been right!
