The FBI and Homeland Security officials are warning local police departments to be on the look out for materials that could be used to make explosives. The warning came as officials investigate a suspected al-Qaida associate and raided three New York City apartments.
Investigators issued warrants to search the residences for explosives material but did not find any, according to a person briefed on the matter who was not authorized to discuss the case and requested anonymity.

So they did not find any explosives at the location, but clearly they were confident these explosives exist - somewhere.
Should be interesting to see how this unfolds.
Wouldn't that cover most of what can be sold in a hardware store, and a lot of what's sold in a supermarket?

“Bomb making equipment” is how government refers to the contents of your kitchen tool drawer. Maybe I’m missing something with this story, but so far there doesn’t seem to be a whole lotta ‘there’ there.

I heard a brief report - once - that the FBI informant talked to the imam there in NY, and the imam told the others, AND that the al-Qaeda liaison escaped because of that. Haven’t heard anything since.
That must have been what it was alluding to. I could have sworn it said a leak out of Washington, but I just caught a snippet.
