Patrick Swayze has died after a nearly two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Swayze's publicist Annett Wolf says the 57-year-old "Dirty Dancing" actor died Monday with family at his side. It was 1987 when Swayze became a star with his performance in "Dirty Dancing," a coming-of-age story set in a Catskills resort. The 1990 film "Ghost" cemented his status as a screen favorite.

Swayze played a murdered man trying to communicate with his fiancee through a spirit played by Whoopi Goldberg.

Thought just hit me - we’re all hyphenated Americans. The only country to classify its citizens. I wonder how soon we’ll be known as, like me, a Washington-American, or as with Patrick a Texas-American ....

He was also the star of a truly awesome dramatic series on A&E called The Beast it was nothing short of a masterpiece and fitting that it was his last work. He co-stars on that series said that he would show up on the set right after his chemo treatments earlier in the day. Sad to see one of the good ones go.

Red Dawn is a good answer to a trivia question as well. It was the first movie rated PG-13, wen they came out with the new ratings system.

I have always loved he and the whole crew who did Red Dawn in the teeth of the Hollywood comsymps. A great movie with a theme we should never forget, particularly rigiht now.

I really liked this guy and I’m sad to see him leave us. Two of my favorite films: Red Dawn and To Wong Foo.

I liked him in both of these too. He made a classy lady. ;-). RIP Mr. Swayze and condolences to his many friends and family.
