I loved him in Red Dawn, and fell in love with him in North and South:

Screen version: North & South Miniseries Books I & II are quite good. Per usual with screen adaptations, there are story lines omitted and altered for the film version. If you don't spend all your time comparing to the novels, they are very enjoyable.

Book III was horrible, disjointed, boring and Swayze wasn't in it anyway.

Yep, the role that really launched his career. My favorite of his roles, though he will always be remembered for ‘Nobody puts baby in a corner’ and Ghost.
