RUSH: And you enjoyed it for all the reasons that you've mentioned. But we've gotta be really, really careful here, Dana, about this left versus right government thing. You mentioned third party, and we've been through this with Perot.
CALLER: I know that. I know that. And I think Perot helped Clinton get in, I don't doubt that. I do believe there has to be a huge movement before people can vote that way.
RUSH: But a third party is not going to do anything other but ensure the reelection of Obama and every other Democrat running for office because even if you come up with a charismatic third-party presidential candidate, still isn't going to have anybody of any significance running in that party for seats in Congress of the US Senate unless this movement happened to become the majority movement in the country, and that's not what's happening. I respectfully disagree with you here. I understand the anger at the Republican Party. Hell, I've got it, too. I've had it for a long, long time. But don't make the mistake of thinking this is not a left versus right thing. This is a conservative ascendancy that's going on out there. You didn't show up and protest like this when the Republicans were in power.

At least he won more elections than the Loser Keyes...
Pragmatism is an essential component of the classic idea of conservative thought.
Start from Burke, or from Russel Kirk, Toqueville, or even Montequieu if you like, but thats what it is.
Non-pragmatic ideological conservatism is almost an oxymoron.
“At least he won more elections than the Loser Keyes...”
Bought, more likely.
McCain is a traitor. It is no surprise he’s helping Obama.
No he didn’t... You must love to support a loser and a coward who talks tough..
“Non-pragmatic ideological conservatism is almost an oxymoron.”
So, “conservatism” to you is not based on any principles, but political expediency?
Reagan had moral and ethical underpinnings behind his capitalist beliefs that I don’t believe Rush has. Plus, Reagan put his ass on the line and went out and participated in the process hands on.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Rush. But he doesn’t have the moral authority IMHO that Reagan had. I like Palin too. And while I don’t think she is ready to lead the conservative movement, I hope she can be by 2012.
The problem is that the GOP has no strong leadership right now. I personally do not trust any of the talk radio heads. Though Beck seems to be extremely effective, and the tea party was an awesome and uplifting, and no doubt put a shock in the shorts of the Dems.
Hopefully a strong, moral and ethical leader will emerge for the GOP, but the crop at the top of active politicians right now is pathetic.
“No he didnt... “
Buy his seat or help Obama?
“You must love to support a loser and a coward who talks tough..”
Better than supporting a liberal traitor.
Well, than you have a problem. Our party is a constitutionalist, personhood pro-life, peace through strength, moral conservative, Reaganite party. It is also a meta-party. In case you don't know what that means, meta means "beyond." We're past that party thing. We endorse individual candidates based on proven adherence to the core principles our nation and our freedom are premised upon, not on mere party labels.
And so, if you're wishing defeat upon us, you're also wishing defeat of the best of the Republicans, since we support them.
“Conservatism is the optimism of mans soul yearning to be free.”
I disagree. Conservatism is the proper attitude of man towards ordering his existence in a fallen world and an imperfect humanity.
“Conservatism believes in the good of man”
Conservatism as I know it contains precisely the opposite view, that man is by nature defective and cannot be perfected (short of the fulfillment of the heavenly purpose).
“you must learn of our Founders and their intent”
I do know of their intentions and thinking. They were conservatives indeed, who understood mankind as imperfect, and of the impossibility of perfection on earth. You have got them precisely backwards.
I seem to recall how you holier than thou conservatives back stabbed Reagan in the back also... Personally I want someone who wants to reduce the size of Government both fiscally and socially also.. Rush is right..
Seems to me that Republicans these days hate Conservatives more than Democrats....
If the republicans want to be the third party, that’s not my fault.
Anyone with any knowledge of history knows Rush is correct, third parties have never, ever, been of benefit to the GOP... it has resulted in total disaster for our country and our economy........
“Personally I want someone who wants to reduce the size of Government both fiscally and socially also.. Rush “
Well, that was not Bush and would not have been Romney, Guiliani, McCain, or the Huckster. Are you sure you are clear on just WHAT you are supporting?
What passes for pragmatism nowadays is actually nothing but short-sightedness and an extreme unwillingness to pay the price for what actually endures.
Right... I’ll be laughing at your with the new “true” conservative party will be among the dust bins of other so called “true” conservatives parties...
Yeah, and it’s amazing how quickly they take up the Obama faction’s methods in the pursuit of that hate.
It seems that you just like to bitch and moan rather get off your butt and do some work..
“Anyone with any knowledge of history knows Rush is correct, third parties have never, ever, been of benefit to the GOP... it has resulted in total disaster for our country and our economy........”
The point isn’t to be “of benefit to the GOP”, but to kill and replace the GOP. That’s how the GOP got started, after all. Voted for a Whig candidate lately?
