Both Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) and his Democratic opponent, Rob Miller, have raised almost $2 million combined since the congressman shouted "You lie!" during the president's address on Wednesday night.
Although Wilson has since apologized to the president for his outburst, he has worked diligently to capitalize on his new, heightened popularity. His recent media blitz -- which included a television interview on Fox News Sunday and a newly minted Twitter feed -- has netted him at least $750,000, though sources did say this weekend he actually has surpassed $1 million.
"[Democrats] want to silence anyone who speaks out against it," Wilson said of the healthcare debate. "They made it clear they want to defeat me and pass the plan. I need your help now… contribute to my effort to defeat the proponents of government-run health care."
