By Mark Z. Barabak September 12, 2009

Reporting from Washington - Thousands of demonstrators from across the country marched up Pennsylvania Avenue this morning beneath assorted banners with a unified theme: anger at President Obama and his expansive agenda.

Organizers of the loosely knit coalition of anti-tax, small-government proponents were hoping for a crowd of 25,000 to 50,000, billing the march as the largest gathering of fiscal conservatives in the history of the nation's capital.

The hand-lettered placards borne down Washington's grand avenue presented a smorgasbord of dissent. There were anti-abortion demonstrators, term-limit advocates, critics of a federal probe into the CIA's interrogation tactics, marchers worried about inflation and picketers unhappy about the soaring national debt.

"Is This Russia?" asked one sign.

"Traitors Terrorists Run Our government," read another in glowing safety orange.

If there was a unifying theme, it was the notion that the federal government, starting with the financial bailout last fall and continuing through the early months of the Obama administration, has grown too big and too intrusive in both the economy and the everyday lives of Americans.

However, the main focus of today's protest was Obama's bid to use the government's power to cut the costs and expand the availability of healthcare, a cause he defended in a forceful speech....

thanks unifox ;)

i hope it’s really that big - that would indeed surprise everyone. but I can’t imagine it being that high.

we have 10s of millions around the country ... but two million in DC?!

would like another estimate in that area... the estimates are wildly different which is wierd.

If this picture was for an ANSWER protest, they would have said that the entire city of New York was in DC protesting the war....

I’d be wary of that 2 million figure- that’s the one Pelosi tossed out as an expectation raiser- and someone tweeted on Malkin’s twitter site that ABC news SAYS it’s 2 million- but so far no one has given an estimate from the D.C police...and I can’t find the figure on the ABC site(s)

I got all excited about this number earlier before I looked into it a little further :)

And still our elected politicians will say we are extremists out of the mainstream.
Time for some new politicians.
Get a rope.

Wrong headline, people!

It should be, "Thousands Gather in D. C. to Oppose Government Takeover of Their Lives and Property."

There, fixed that!

We absolutely must make this a larger debate than about health care, for we may never have the opportunity again!

Don't let the Left define the debate!!! This is about liberty or tyranny for future generations of Americans.

No LIVE stream for this ???

Fox has no sound for the speakers at the Freedom Works podium and has a memorial to fire fighters sound on the stream of the protestors on the Mall ...

Is this LIVE right now or is it over ???

See post #2. That photo looks like a lot more people than the “million man march” or “million mom march” to me.

Absolutely- they are re-casting what this is into something it ISN’T at every turn-

“the main focus of today’s protest was Obama’s bid to use the government’s power to cut the costs and expand the availability of healthcare,”

Price controls.... even IF he had legal authority to do so, the laws of economics WILL NOT be thwarted.

“expand availability” see “massive transfer of wealth”

NO!
You idiot!
He has no intention or ability to “cut the costs and expand the availability of healthcare!
ALL that BO wants is CONTROL!
THAT is what the protests are about!
When the GOVERNMENT “cuts the cost”, the QUALITY AND AVAILABLITY DISAPPEAR!!!!
