A LEADING Muslim spokesman has criticised new NSW laws that enshrine the rights of staff to refuse to work on Christian-orientated public holidays.

The State Government is banning most shops from opening on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Easter Sunday and Good Friday unless their owners can prove compelling demand from the local community.

Shops will also only be able to open for half a day on ANZAC day.

The new law prevents shop owners forcing staff to work on those days.

Sydney-based Muslim community spokesman Keysar Trad said workers of all faiths were entitled to a break and called for the two main Muslim public holidays to be recognised as well.

I always was under the assumption that Australia was pretty well insulated from this crap. I guess not.

The Muslim community will soon demand and get special privileges that would be held unlawful or unconstitutional for the rest of us.

If the muzzies have a problem with Australia and their laws, maybe they should just go back to the sewer they crawled out of. This isn’t rocket science.

I've had the opportunity to speak to some Aussies lately. It sounds like they are more insulated from this crap, but not completely.

I think they also have tighter immigration laws.

If you are a private business owner we will recognize your right to operate your shop within the law as you see fit. You can close your shop anytime you like.

Sure we will recognize your holidays if you point them out to us on the calendar. However we will not impose an imposition on the vast majority of business owners to please a tiny fraction of the population.

Certainly you as individuals are free to take vacation or unpaid days off to celebrate your holidays if you so desire (with concurrence of your employer of course)

We are after all a civilized and enlightened culture as opposed to the majority of Middle Eastern nations that prohibit the celebration of non-Muslim religious holidays, let alone the construction of non-Muslim houses of worship, or the worship period of non-Muslim gods.

We are after all a civilized and enlightened culture as opposed to the majority of Middle Eastern nations we will not impose upon you a special tax due to your practice of a religion that is different than the majority and we will not impose upon you a dress code that is foreign to your traditions, nor will we cut out your tongue if you utter words that we find slanderous to our god or sacrilegious to our religion.

Yes we are an enlightened nation but don’t press your luck.

These muzzies who want to live with their ways should stay in their own back yard. We don't need them nor want them. They would get along much better if they would realize that their demands end at the forward edge of our national boundaries. They don't grant dispensations to westerners when they visit or have to live in their countries, How dare they demand their ways in our land...and how dare we let them get away with it.

Hi George76, good to see you posting.

Islam will try this stuff everywhere it can - and it will try to wear down by attrition and false logic.

I think Aussies are made of stronger stuff. We just indulge them.

The UK remains in a mess, with Nu-labour in it's death throes, with no-one of real caliber waiting in the wings. I hope UKIP will do well in the next election. I only vote for them these days.

In a perfect world, Islam would roll over and play dead...

Why is the Government directing private businesses to close down on certain religious holidays?

This should be left up to the businesses.

Well they aren’t! They are inshrining in legislation the rights of shopworkers to refuse to work on a religious holiday without fear of getting the sack - a good thing I think but of course then the Muslims will demand equal rights under the legislation!

I remember those days too. I worked long hours Monday - Saturday. There were no 24 hour groceries or big box stores. Yes, great fun.

Vimto, It is good to hear from you.

This “domestic jihad” is too much.

9-11 should have been enough to wake up the DUmmies...it was not.

Our tea parties are making some progress. Even if the national news outlets try to ignore it, many local stations are airing some video.

0 and pals are finally getting worse polling numbers.
