The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone poll finds that Republican challenger Rob Simmons leads Dodd 49% to 39% in an early look at next years potential match-up. Five percent (5%) say theyd prefer some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are not sure.
While Simmons, a former congressman, is the strongest early challenger to the Democratic incumbent, there are several other Republicans in the running. Dodd finds himself essentially even with state Senator Sam Caligiuri, former U.S. Ambassador to Ireland Tom Foley and Peter Schiff, the high-profile president of Euro Pacific Capital. In each of those match-ups, Dodd earns between 40% and 43% of the vote while the Republicans all fall in the same range.
Typically, when an incumbent polls below 50%, they are considered potentially vulnerable. Dodd certainly falls into that category.

Well, he can always move to Ireland. I hear he has a nice cabin there paid for by mortgage companies.
It doesn’t matter if Simmons is a RINO.
Our chances are good as long as Dodd insists on running.
Good. Dump Dodd.
Hopefully this POS Dodd will get dumped with lots of other Dems and some stinking RINOs like Juan McCain will get dumped in the primaries.
Anyone but Dodd
Im sure the Obama, Pelosi, Reid machine will do everything in their power to make this lead go away.
And that's the way it stays.
If any of these guys will do, I’m hoping for Peter Schiff.
Ah the beauty of Schiff unseating Dodd . . . one of the few people to accurately predict the economic crisis taking down one of the few people to benefit from it.
how long as Dodd been a senator?
With Acorn getting exposed and possibly more scrutiny into voter fraud...maybe democrats will start to wake up that if Dodd can be vulnerable..so too can they.
Elected in ‘80.
One person said it was a tactic to expose Cap and Trade. I doubt that.
See Merken is running against Dodd on the Connecticut for Lieberman party? Joe set that up, left it after being elected and his organization was grabbed by the Ned Lamont crazies who hate Lieberman.
But they hate Merkin too. They say he parrots GOP talking points and went to a Tea party. Merken could be a nice spoiler for the GOP.
30 years and he is going to get his butt kicked out...LOLOLOL
Looks like it’s a case of the Dodd man out.
Damn....I was hoping the article was referring to Peter Schiff. Oh well, the Establishment wouldn’t let us know about it even if it was true.
Supporting either a Carbon Tax or Cap and Trade should mean instant defeat for any Republican candidate. It’s a sad thing, that it might not.
From my (far away) perspective, I’d love to see Schiff in the Senate. Having someone who accurately foresaw the crash would seem to be invaluable to the Republicans, if they had a clue about how to take political advantage of it.
