President George W. Bush plans a quiet day in his Dallas office Friday in his first Sept. 11 since leaving the White House.
*snip*
"Eight years ago, our nation and our freedom came under attack. On this solemn anniversary, Laura and I hold the victims and their families in our thoughts and prayers. We honor those who volunteer to keep us safe and extend the reach of freedom including members of the armed forces, law enforcement officers, and intelligence and homeland security professionals.
Their courage, service and sacrifice is a fitting tribute to all those who gave their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. On this day, let us renew our determination to prevent evil from returning to our shores."
Sherzer says the former president would make no public appearances nor give any interviews Friday.

Thank you Kaslin, I am humbled and honored by your posting of my article. Sometimes it just helps to sit and write it all down. The sadness doesn’t go away, but it puts everything else into perspective.
I miss the kind and gentle sincerity of President Bush whenever I have to see this other guy just play-acting.
One question:
Have we ever heard where the present President was on 9/11??
“I was wondering why this has been the most difficult, emotional 9/11 anniversary for me yet. The answer should have been obvious. I miss this man terribly... especially on a day like today.”.....
I felt the same way, Whistling, and thought it odd until I read your post. Perhaps if the man occupying the Oval Office today was a man we could trust, respect and honor, it would not have been such an emotional roller coaster for us. I felt nothing but anger everytime I saw the apologist in chief playacting today, and then felt ashamed because I gave him that power over me on today of all days.
You are very welcome. I thought it was a great article written by you worth sharing
;)
Thanks for the ping I am about to post some memories of 9/11 and beyond on the monthly thread.
Thanks for this ping.
Nice remembrance of when the White House had some class.
Will we have a president like that again? I don't know ...
The contrast is beyond incredible, isn’t it?
We were so blessed .. I pray to God we’re
so blessed again.
The last photo reminds me of both my father and my grandfather, both of whom I no longer have in my life - tearful to say the least.
Reminds me a little of my dad too. The girl in the photo lost her mother in the WTC attacks.
Too sad. Of course, Bush never received any credit for acts like that.
