Obama's Lies Matter, Too
Reason Magazine ^ | September 10, 2009 | Matt Welch

Posted on 09/11/2009 6:51:36 AM PDT by leilani

On Wednesday night a broad chunk of the American left, and an overlapping circle of media commentators, got what they'd been aching for since the beginning of August: A presidential bitch-slap of the lying liars who've been, in the words of stereotypical L.A. Times columnist Tim Rutten, "crowding out nearly all substantive and realistic discussion of the critical issues surrounding healthcare reform."

"But know this," President Barack Obama said in one of several such satisfying passages in his health care speech last night. "I will not stand by while the special interests use the same old tactics to keep things exactly the way they are. If you misrepresent what's in the plan, we will call you out."

Salon Editor in Chief Joan Walsh could barely contain herself at this nearly Snoop Doggesque display. "'We will call you out' on lies," she Tweeted. "love it!"

It is telling that so many people who claim to be speaking on the side of Truth, Justice, and the American Way of Journalism have consistently focused their outrage-o-meters at individual townhall attendees, political broadcast entertainers, and the lesser lights of a lame (if resurgent-by-default) opposition party, while letting walk nearly fact-check-free the non-irrelevant occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. If calling out lies and misrepresentations about a significant policy proposal is such pressing journalistic business—and it should be!—you'd think the watchdogs might start with the guy doing the proposing.

Be sure to go to the source @ Reason Magazine for the rest. It's a well-crafted one from their Editor in Chief Matt Welch yesterday calling Obama out in detail on the lies he put forth in his speech, but a search of FR indicated it hadn't yet been posted here.

” “I will not stand by while the special interests use the same old tactics to keep things exactly the way they are. If you misrepresent what’s in the plan, we will call you out.” “

Perhaps off-topic, but did anyone note the AARP ad run (at least twice) during the NFL game last nite??

Almost an exact paraphrase of Obama’s ‘evil special interests destroying our Utopia’ cant...

As of last nite, AARP is ‘all-in’......

"If you misrepresent what's in the plan, we will call you out."

Too bad "The One" doesn't like being called out on his own tissue of lies.

Yep, ‘all in’, is right. Speaking of lies, it was a huge heaping pile of a whopper that AARP was ever out. They’re in in for the kill - literally!

Yep, according to Obama & his sycophantic shills in the State Run Media, adhering to the quaint notion that if truth is good for the goose it should be good for the gander too is somehow ‘racist’. Yet it seems to be they who are saying that our President cannot be held to the same standards of veracity he disingenuously demands everyone else maintain, thereby implying that the amount of melanin he’s carrying around somehow impairs his ability to tell the truth. Are they not the racists then?

Thanks for posting that Bay. I'd clipped a few paragraphs of that piece the other day to send to wavering Obamabots of my acquaintance as "study materials" for when they watched the speech. (Hey, if the O administration can send out study materials for his speech to kids, I figured I could too for his speech to Congress.)

Thomas Sowell is the conscience of America, IMO.

Just keep asking those same questions. Eventually they will realize that he is saying nothing. Perhaps you can suggest that they take a night off and read George Orwell’s 1984. Perhaps they might understand what Dear Leader is saying better then.
