WASHINGTON -- So Van Jones, the defenestrated White House green-jobs czar, once called Republicans "a--holes." Big deal. I've said worse about Democrats. I've said worse about Republicans. I've said worse about members of my family (you know who you are).
How prissy have we become? Are we allowed no salt in our linguistic diets?
Having once written a column praising Vice President Cheney's pithy deployment of the F-word -- on the floor of the Senate, no less -- I rise in defense of Jones. True, Jones' particular choice of epithet had none of the one-syllable concision, the onomatopoeic suggestiveness, the explosive charm of Cheney's. But you don't fire a guy for style.
Another charge was that Jones was a self-proclaimed communist. I can't get too excited about this either. In today's America, to be a communist is a pose, not a conviction. After the Soviet collapse, Marxism is a relic, a pathetic anachronism reduced to its last redoubts: North Korea, Cuba and the English departments of the more expensive American universities.
In any case, every administration is allowed a couple of wing nuts among its 8,000 appointees. As long as they're not in charge of foreign policy or the Fed, who cares?

He forgot the Presidency of the US....
Et tu, Charles??
Krauthammer has a ‘Master’s Level’ talent for being brilliantly right one moment, and ludicrously wrong the next...
You need to read the whole article, not just part of it to get what he means
I don’t agree with Krauthammer on this. I don’t want them in gov’t here. PERIOD. Incrementalism.
Good article, I agree with it.
Each of K’s little defenses of Jones might be true taken in isolation, but they come at you all in the same person. A pattern of radicalism. Jones’ socialist agenda was clear even before we found about the Truther conection. Also, as you imply, this is all in the context of the deep sewer of associations we already see in the president.
As for Communism, who can deny that its socialism is a threat? Remember what Obama said in 2003 about the constitution, that he objected to its “negative liberties,” an that the Warren court “had not been radical enough?” I just don’t understand Krauthammer. He needs to rub elbows with some of these tea party folks, and get his mind right.
First post read today, and probably the best I’ll read the rest of the year. Thank you.
Charles has become succinct in his talk, and direct in his writing to the point that he’s become a national treasure. There are never, and I mean never any vocalized pauses. No cue cards, no teleprompter, and yet like diner’s next to the the E. F. Hutton guy, we inch a bit forward in our seats when he’s about to speak.
No wonder FOX NEWS is number one. They have the best.
Are we coming back for the upteenth time about what people think he said about Sarah Palin? Am I the only one here that heard differently? What he said she should do, she is doing.
CK is right about Van Jones needing to go because he’s a “truther” but wrong about his indifference to Jones being a self-declared Marxist/Communist. Why is someone this extreme allowed in any policy making position? Van Jones’ comments on white environmentalists pumping poison into black communities is also reason enough for Jones to go, in spite of Krauthammer’s assessments. That particular comment by Jones displays racism and paranoia and a victim mentality....
Adolf Eichmann was just one of 8,000 or so.
I was at first skeptical about it, until I read the whole article.
Exactly....
That's a comforting thought, but one thing we are actually seeing is how mistaken it is. These people are Marxists, they agree with every aspect of his thought, and they mean to impose Marxism in this country. It may be an updated, "green" version, but it is still going to be communism pure and simple, probably imposed after the "green" project has reduced us to a Third World economy and lifestyle and we will no longer have any freedom to defend.
This will officially be the last time I read anything from Townhall.com.
They’ve really turned into a bunch of handwringers, apologists, and RINO mouthpieces as of late.
First of all no one forces you to read anything. Two, read the whole thing before you jump to conclusion.
I bet Krauthammer thinks kids playing with matches is a “pose”, as well. ( What an idiot!)

A better reply would have been
He forgot the current President of the US
I am sure that is what you meant
