U.S. Rep. Dan Boren said Congress should use the power of the purse to push the Obama administration to remove so-called czars that do not go through a confirmation process. Boren joined others in criticizing the growing trend to name czars to lead efforts in specific areas.
Such officials do not go through oversight hearings or a confirmation vote in the Senate. Boren referred to them as unelected bureaucrats who do not answer to lawmakers. Even though such czars do not go through a confirmation process, Boren cited the authority that came along with the congressional control over the power of the purse.
He also singled out Cass Sunstein...I dont believe he should be appointed to anything, Boren said.

And while they’re at it, they shouldn’t create a process for confirming czars, either.
Sunstein is definitely a kook. I hope Boren spikes him.
Excellent! And yes, I agree, Congress shouldn’t end up somehow legitimizing these personally controlled administrators. There are Cabinet positions for all of these areas, and the lower level administrative appointments should be the responsibility of the Cabinet member responsible for that department. The president should not be involved with the personal selection of such people, and they should certainly not be empowered to do things on their own, as they are now when they are considered “czars.”
Boran should be applauded, supported and encouraged to rescue his party from the commies who hyjacked it
We’ve got more czars than Russia ever had!
This needs to be done, ASAP!
The Rinos will only join their friends across the aisle to vote for the most goulish ones like Holdren.
Don’t be putting up any normal people in front of the Senate, Obama! Stick with the “smart” people who don’t have a soul or the Rinos will tear you down to size. The old gals from Maine have finally been released from the witch’s closet!
Yep, Congress will be out of job if they don’t.
I've known the Boren family, the whole extended family gene pool, for... my goodness. Forty three years? Yes, I guess so. Like the Claudians of Imperial Rome, it is a tree that puts forth both sweet and sour apples.
Some very exceptional, very good humored and talented individuals, with any family's assortment of embarrassments.
On the whole, they've been behind the curve but still in the top ten percentile among Democrats who eventually have their Moment of Clarity.
For some, that moment was the nomination of Walter Mondale in 1984. They showed up at the station, asked if they were Christians, and lead to the boarding platform only to learn an hour or so later that the train had left the station three hours earlier.
Despairing, they happened to listen to Ronald Reagan's Prayer Breakfast Speech, before the formal opening of the Republican Convention in Dallas...
They realized they had been in the wrong political party for a very long time.
Some came to understand the Democrats presented a Clear and Present Danger to the safety of the Republic, and some of those even became Republicans, thinking that group was in the business of stopping Democrats.
Sadly, the Republicans have done nothing to deliver on that responsibility, though their new clarity about Democrats proved to be very accurate.
In short, the reason their are any Democrats in Congress representing Oklahoma at all is because they are Borens, and the reason Borens are not Republicans is because of... well... Republicans, unfortunately.
But, of course, this is all academic. The strength of Democrats today is a testimony to the disappointing and needless weakness of the GOP.
not always... he tried to include me in a townhall conference call but all they did was tell me i missed it and gave me a number to call to get a chance at the next one...guess he didnt have enough vacation time....
i picked up phone on second ring.
we wont be voting for him ...he votes the way the dims tell him to
Dems here are different but he didn’t do this without his Dad’s, former Sen David Boren’s, approval. In fact, I would be willing to bet it was Pres Boren’s idea for his son to get back some of the votes he lost when he voted for Pelosi and the Obama stimulus bill.
Rumors keep turning up that Dan Boren will become a Republican before running again. He never did support Obama for President in his District and said recently that his 2nd district voted less then 34% for Obama last November and today it would be even less.
Will be interesting to watch. I do agree with him on the Czars.
Thanks for the Oklahoma insights. I remembered that Okla. was the only state in the continental U.S. where not a single county went to Obama in 2008. So it’s interesting when a Democrat comes out with a statement like this on Obama’s czars.
Some of our counties are overwhelmingly Democrat and this is the 2nd Presidential election in a row that every County went Republican — first for President Bush in 2004 and then for Sen McCain in 2008.
Oklahoma bucked the national trend of going Dem by only giving Obama 34% of the vote, taking both statewide Corporation Commission seats, and for the first time in history taking control of the Oklahoma Senate and keeping the House with larger numbers.
I've Heard Recently That A Czar Will Be Replacing You, Will You Be So Kind And Send Me His Name And Address.
I had to LOL at this. I've suggested this very thing to him in e-mails.
