Who's the most unpatriotic: Truthers or birthers?
Orlando Sentinel ^ | 9/10/09 | Jonah Goldberg

Posted on 09/10/2009 6:16:25 PM PDT by pissant

Herewith, two scenarios.

Scenario A: The supposedly inept president of the United States carefully planned and orchestrated the worst terrorist attack on American soil in our history. Though "only" 3,000 people died, the plan was to kill many more by simultaneously attacking the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and either the U.S. Capitol or the White House itself on Sept. 11, 2001.

Hundreds of people, including personnel from myriad agencies, participated. According to some versions of Scenario A, explosives were placed at the World Trade Center to ensure success. In other versions, all of "the Jews" working there were tipped off by some phone bank run by the Mossad. In every version, however, the U.S. government was in on it, and everyone involved kept the biggest secret in American history.

Then, there's Scenario B: An ambitious and extremely clever politician, who has at best been selectively forthcoming about large chunks of his youth, lied about his place of birth so he could be eligible for the presidency.

To further this scheme, he has arranged for the full and/or original version of his birth certificate to remain under lock and key. At most, a handful of supporters and lawyers are in on the whole thing.

Now, which one is more believable? For the record, I don't believe either. But it seems to me the "birther" hypothesis is vastly more plausible than the "truther" hypothesis. Politicians lie to advance their careers. You can look it up. Whole governments rarely orchestrate incredibly complex acts of physics, logistics and mass murder all the while pinning guilt on others (who boast that they acted alone).

Just for clarification: "Truthers" believe scenario A. "Birthers" believe scenario B.

One is paranoid delusional schizophrenia, the other is pure, old fashioned patriotism. I think you know which is which.

Why does Goldberg even equate the two?? You can wonder about why hide a BC and not be crazy.

Pray for America

Truthers are delusional fools. Birthers are patriots rightfully concerned about what a radical socialist/fascist is doing to our Country, and is he even legally President.

One way? Sure. But I call 'em like I see 'em.

He’s trying to put a bit of distance between the two. In actaulity, they are polar opposites.

Yes, it seems far-fetched that someone in the WH has actually held his BC, transcripts, etc., under lock and key. But the truth is that that’s exactly what he’s done. No tin foil hat necessary!

The difference between "truthers" and "birthers"?

Truthers will never change no matter how much evidence to the contrary. Birthers, on the other hand only need to see a long form birth certificate.

It’s a stupid comparison, like asking “which tastes sweeter, red or blue?” In a free country, even the wildest personal opinions have nothing to do with patriotism.

Well Jonah we agree on most things but I think you misrepresent the “birther” argument at least in my case.

The way I see it we are just supporting the Constitution of the United States, the basic law of the land. We are not trivializing it as the left does but we take it seriously.

All I want is Obama to show proof that he is a natural born citizen as required by the Constitution. No more no less. No conspiracy theories or anything else associated with it. Remember the dimoKKKRATS took McQueeg to court because he was born in Panama.

I had to think about it. Let’s see...

Truthers think their own government is vile enough to arrange the murder of 3000 human beings for completely political ends.

Birthers think that an avowed racist, socialist and Marxist who is doing his best to destroy our country got into office illegally.

Ann Coulter could probably do a great job framing this question.

To put this in very simple terms: One HATES our Constitution....the other LOVES it.

Don't liberals believe in “critical thinking?”

Oh wait, that's only when questioning Bush's military record, the existence of God, the purpose of the Iraq war, the right to bear arms, or if proven economic theory holds true when it comes to private vs. state run economies..................

Liberals are the most ignorant and close minded folk you'll ever encounter, but that won't stop them from using the terms “close minded, racist, xenophobic etc.” to silence others they have no arguments left.

Is there any question, the Truthers are just nuts. I understand the reasoning of the Birthers and while some theories are a real stretch, the bulk of what they ask is the exact same questions the left asked of McCain and Congress saw it so important they issued a resolution for McCain on the issue.

Truthers don't believe what was documented and preserved on video, phone calls, and by million of eye-witnesses in live-time.

Birthers don't believe a document that has been presented with no witnesses, has no provinance, no original paper, and no signatures.

There is no comparison

Which scenario is more unpatriotic, more malicious, more corrosive to civic life? In short: which is more evil? Again, I think the answer is obvious. Alas, it seems I'm in a minority.

Take heart, Goldberg. I, along with many others here, were in the minority since before the term "birther" was coined. I've watched our numbers grow dramatically since then -- explosively so in recent days. Perhaps, we'll gain the majority yet, and soon. In light of recent judicial proceedings, I am more hopeful than ever.

Who's the most unpatriotic: Truthers or birthers?

Let's see... "truthers" who are unable to contemplate the most basics of science believe that Dubya and others working with him designed and carried it out, not the mooselimbs. "Birthers" (an inacurrate name, by the way) simply want to see something, ANYTHING that proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that the individual currently occupying our White House is constitutionally eligible to hold it. Best bet, many more than just one bloody thing.

Most unpatriotic? Today's liberals, whose title should read underneath 'Hate Our Constitutional Republic', 'Hate Our Current Policies', and 'Must Change This To Socialist Country No Matter What'
