John Stossel Leaving ABC For Fox
TV Newser ^ | September 10, 2009 | Chris Ariens

Posted on 09/10/2009 10:33:24 AM PDT by rightwingintelligentsia

First on TVNewser: John Stossel, the longtime ABC News correspondent and co-anchor of "20/20," is leaving ABC to join Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network. TVNewser has learned Stossel will host a weekly, one-hour program for the 2-year-old business channel. He's expected to signed a multi-year deal with Fox which will include regular appearances on Fox News Channel during daytime and primetime. He'll also host four, hour-long specials on Fox News, much like the business/consumer specials he'd hosted for years on ABC.

Stossel, a libertarian, has been appearing on Fox News for years as a guest on shows including "The O'Reilly Factor," "Hannity & Colmes" and "The Big Story."

Stossel joined "20/20" in 1981 and was upped to co-anchor in 2003. TVNewser has learned there was a window in Stossel's ABC contract which allowed him to jump to Fox.

Stossel's departure from ABC means there will soon be another anchor vacancy at the network. Last week, Charlie Gibson announced his retirement paving the way for Diane Sawyer to take over on "World News" beginning in January. "20/20's" other co-anchor Elizabeth Vargas, is one of the top names being mentioned for the GMA slot.

I wondered what took so long. Birds of a feather flock together, kinda like Obama and his Chicago friends.

...we need to have more voices for our side outside of Fox News

In a more perfect world maybe. For an example given today's reality look at Beck before Fox versus where he is now.

Maybe Fox can give Whoraldo to ABC.

I only caught him on Youtube. I loved him when I had TV (before 1997).

Naturally, it will still be only Youtube stuff though.

I’ll bet that he has been frequently frustrated at ABC by not being allowed to many pursue stories he wanted to.

” Let me add here. Fox could then send O’Reilly to ABC “

No deal — ABC wanted Oreilly, Geraldo, six draft choices, and an undisclosed amount of cash for Stossel....

Which is why Fox had to wait until Stossel could go free-agent....

So now every non-lefty person in media is going to be pushed to Fox, where they can easily be discredited and diminished? Wonderful.

Well, MSNBC (PMS-NBC) has decided to to full-on lefty...are they discredited?

The leftward tilt in practically every other print/electronic outlet was taken for granted...were they discredited?

I don’t like Stossel. He doesn’t belong at FOX.

Just off hand - why?

Glad to have him at Fox! FNC will allow John Stossel the chance to do the kind of expose shows that today, maybe more than ever before, need to be done.

John Stossel has poked holes in gun control, govt run schools, govt run health care and all the other sacred cows in the past but only in 10 minutes segments. Plus, the money is probably better too.

Look for Lou Dobbs to arrive @ FOX as soon as his contract is up with CNN.

Fox Business just signed Imus, Dobbs would probably go there first, before they tried to squeeze him into Fox News. Unless, of course, the powers-that-be decide to shake up the entire line-up!

With Stossel...isn’t Fox like the New York Yankees of 1927...and Stossel is merely a lowly-ranked “Mickey Mantle” next to Gehrig and Ruth?

I don’t see how CNN will be able keep viewers over the next three years. If Larry King exits at any point...they lose half their concrete viewers.

Wish they'd give him O'Rielly's slot.

Well you don't mess with success and O'Reilly is, if nothing else, successful. I thing Stossel will eat into Geraldo's airtime.

Well, the establishment in this country is left, so of course not. (Although, I will say, I don't think MSNBC is all that respected).

It is not a good thing to have some kind of conservative ghetto.
